I am geting ready to buy 2 m-44's this weekend. I am wondering, what kind of ammo do you use for plinking, and hunting?. Also what is a god price on milsurp stuff? I am going to a gun show next week and i dont want to get ripped off.

Wolf branded ammo seems to work well in my M44, but I've only put about 60 rounds past it. Not too dirty, and has a good punch. I tried a box of this "Bear" ammo (don't remember the exact name...it was cheap and bought at the time of the weapon's purchase) and wasn't as clean.

Wolf is good stuff, relatively cheap, accurate, non-corrosive and clean. Nuff said.

I use Wolf, Silver Bear and Golden (?) Bear-- whatever I can find non-corrosive. I picked up 2 boxes of Wolf for $16 total-- which is good around here...

SHoots and kicks like it should!!

I shoot mostly surplus ammo. It is cheaper than the other stuff. Just have to clean well after shooting to remove the salt from the berdan primers.

Virgil,

Get yerself a reloading press, dies, scale, .310dia 123gr (AK/SKS) bullets and a pound of Hodgdon H4895 powder and use the Youth Load data on the Hodgdon web site. You can create some really good, accurate and still effective loads for the M44 and wont come home with that oh so hurting shoulder after a days shoot.
