Damn...I was seriouly thinking about gtting a Mosin but yall are scaring me about blowing my face off just to shoot a gun...
I wouldn't worry to much, unless you are sing one that has not been touched in many years. Most the ones your going to find from a shop have been cleaned up and test fired. Even if you take your rifle to a gunsmith, which you should do whenever buying a used gun, he can get you up to spped, and you'll still have a great weapon for a little cash.

actually, you mostly get headspace issues from rearsenalled guns. When they mix and match the bolts to receivers, it's possible that a bolt may not match a receiver correctly and have too little or too much headspace. If you've fired it and you're alive: by all means keep shooting. If you haven't and you're afraid: by all means get it checked.
