the ati scope mount is the one that requires drilling and tapping.

there is another one you can get [email protected] http://milsurpstuff.com/, but it mounts waaaaaay foreward, so the scope really isnt positioned correctly....but no drilling and tapping.....its only like $14 though....

Remember, if you go the "way forward" mount, also called a "scout" configuration...you'll probably need a pistol scope, as the eye relief would be all wrong with a rifle scope.

Yeah I'd recommend one that just replaces the rear site, so that way it is easy to swap back and forth.

You can get extended eye relief, high powered rifle scopes, but they are a bit pricey and can be hard to find at times. Last I checked, you can find them at Cabelas.com and cheaperthandirt.com.

Yep, I should have said "most" rifle scopes would be a problem...good catch.

I'm not a collector for collecting sake, so all my rifles are set up for serious shooting. Since I demand consistent accuracy from my Mosin M44 I used the 'drill & tap' ATI scope mount and a 3-9x40 scope.

For those that kringe at the thought of permanent modifications, I would never drill a rifle of historical significance or rarity.

I have a similar setup I got off ebay and it works great. At first it wouldn't hold steady but I got it to snug and got the scope zeroed in. good enough to hit bullseye at 200yds!

well i definitely plan to scope the mosin at some point and i am cheap as hell so i would probably go this route

i'm curious how the rail attaches. i think i see two screws on the rail. do the screws just hold tension against the barrel, or stock? or is there something else that holds the rail on the gun?
