17HMR doesnt really have any recoil, whats with the muzzle break??...........my 17hmr is a savage with a heavy barrel and a 6-24x40 scope. i can shoot it and see the bullet impact the target at 100yards thats how little recoil mine has maybe its just because of the heavy barrel
Take a look at a Savage 93R17 BV or BTV the run under $300 if you shop around. The Savage is better out of the box. Mossberg and Marlin need trigger work to get the best out of them. I have not seen the LBT trigger on Mossberg rimfires. Savage does put the accutrigger on the 93 series rifles.

I have a 93R17 BTVS and its the most accurate rifle I own. I have a Burris 4.5-14 A/O scope on mine.

buy an H&R sportster for 140$ and have twice the rifle for half the price.

+1 on the Sportster, and it comes with a Bull barrel for that price. Or, as Ron M. said, the Savage would be a great choice. Before I decided to go with the H&R, I looked at a Savage with accutrigger and bull barrel in stainless steel for $330 at my LGS. From what I have seen on rimfirecentral and .17hmr.net, few people have been very happy with the Mossberg.
same story for the rimfire section at arfcom. they hate them.
