Most here know that my favorite rifle is the Handi Rifle and my favorite cartridge is the 30-30 Winchester. But is that fixin’ to change? When the 350 Legend came out I bemoaned the cartridge. Everything about it was wrong. But I bought one anyway. From the 35/30-30 to the 350 Remington Magnum, there is just something about the 35 Caliber rifles I like.

I pulled out my 30-30 rifles yesterday and put a few rounds down range. Yes, I like them, like them a lot. I own the Mossberg 30-30 Brush Gun (trapper style) and the H&H Handi Rifle. Shoot Hornady 170 grain flat point out of the former and 150 grain spire points out of the latter. Was thinking I need to look and see if any of the Henry Single shots were available. And the Henry lever with the large loop and ghost ring sights is also a dandy. None in stock.

Then I looked at the Henry Single Shot 350 LGND. None available either.

As much as it pains me to say it, the 350 LGND is just a better cartridge than the old 30-30. At least for the whitetail deer and black bear we have around here. My 30-30 was not even brought out this past hunting season. I have a Ruger Predator chambered in 350 LGND as well as a MSR made from shelf parts. I just acquired the parts to build a premium upper. Aero Precision, CMMG, BCM. I have a premium 300 BLK made with the same components. The only difference besides chambering is that the BCM gunfighter rail for the LGND is M-LOK while the Gunfighter rail on the 300 BLK is Key-Mod. And I do believe that the Henry Single shot will find its way into my safe.

The 30-30’s look like they are going into semi-retirement.

Aero puts out a nice lower
I've built many rifles using them I am currently building a geissele lower and they worked with Daniel defense
To design it. Currently used by special operations. Anyway
I'm having fun putting it together one part at a time probably take me year to save my pennies to get it finished

Cheese and rice, man! How many posts are you going to title as your favorite whatever? What are we up to now, 17 or 18? Knives by type and use, handguns broken down to semiauto and wheel gun, caliber per use, rifles, camp stoves, ruck sacks, and fanny packs.

You're like a woman with 100 different pairs of shoes explaining why she has 18 shades of red in 7 styles of footwear and how each one is her absolute to die for favorite but only if she's doing this and not that but maybe the other thing could happen and she can't wear these shoes with that outfit...

Make him go back and subtitle all these recycled titles 😹😹😹

That's also the first thing that occurred to me, but I always read them, and it's always a wealth of Info! I've told @greg_r he should be a gun writer. He weaves a compelling story!!

Admiration level HIGH

Well if you combine the "favorite" series with the "rambling thoughts on..." series he's should get an entire forum titled "Greg_r's favorite rambling thoughts on..." and then just title the individual threads with the flavor of the day.

I read them all too. I just roll my eyes and think, "here we go again" when I see the titles. 😆

Yeah, don’t cha’ know it.

Still, a cartridge that I have made a 180 on. I have given a ton of reasons why I did not like it. Now I am touting it as better than the best whitetail cartridge ever invented. And don’t forget, it was not that long ago that I concluded that the 350 Legend was a failure as a groundhog cartridge. So yes, depending on what I an doing.

knives - yep. It’s hard to fillet a bluegill with a machete. And I will not lie, the Ontario RAT series will do 99% of what I want it to do, but a year or so ago I made the mistake of buying a TOPS, before it’s over, assuming I live long enough, there will be a TOPS for everything I want to do.

I am already there with my handguns. 1911 is my favorite carry, and bedside handgun. I will take mine from Ruger please. The SBH 44 magnum for big game and the Single Six for small game. The Bearcat is the kit gun of choice while the SP101 in 22 LR or 357 - yes, depending on what I am doing - brings up the rear.

The Hidden Woodsmen will carry my stuff, I will build my fires in Firebox Stoves, and Exotac will provide the flame or spark. I have not found anything better to cook in than the Stanley Adventure series cooking gear.

Somehow I feel like I am not me. Old Hickory, H&R and Military Surplus will do all I want it to do, and do it well. I just got on this "I deserve it" kick a few years ago. I don’t want to drive a Ford any more, I want to drive Lincoln’s.

Seems our Recommended Reading Al-Gore-Rhythm senses a pattern too 🧐 View attachment 76422 View attachment 76423

All gleaned from below this post 😁
Ok, point taken. I will still talk about things I like, I just need to be more creative with the titles I guess. Rambling Thoughts was pretty good I think. They are after all my rambling thoughts.….

Nah. I like Rambling Thoughts. I will go back to using that, it is original to me I think ???

My point, if there was one, LOL, is that you have many serial threads. Coupled with an earlier reply I made, just adding a sub title would really make it easier for new visitors to follow your excellent content!

Confession Time!
I stole completely, or modified your Rambling Thoughts and used it on my blockchain account, you know, the one where I get paid for doing what you guys do here for free...
JUST THE TITLE, I only post my own stories and experiences!

We have a "professional shooter" there, he's located in Australia, a veteran and also a part time varmint control pro. Political and governmental restrictions aside, he's pretty much the Aussie version of HPFF's finest. He's also a member of the 1 Mile Club, using a 6.5 CM if memory serves. I better check that, sounds small 🧐

Your content would probably be wonderfully rewarded there, @greg_r

Rach has an account, but this place keeps him busy.
