New Ownership = Carbine Redesign?

Now that Hi Point is under new ownership, what are the odds we'll get a newly redesigned carbine that is easier to take down, and uses double-stack mags?

I think it's quite possible. Looking forward to SHOT 2016 and 2017. Might see something there.

They are leaving a lot of money on the table by no producing higher cap mags, I expect the new owners will be looking to maximize profit.

  3. i think the double stack mags would make the hand grip tooo big..
taking the hp carbine apart isn't a big thing also..
if you not happy with hp's, buy a cx4... takedown easy...;)

I have a CX4 in 9mm already, and love it.

Just looking for a .45 carbine to round out my collection.

I actually like the look of the new hp's. Just can't get over the mag issue.

I don't think the grip would have to be much bigger, if at all, if they just milled it out to accept double stacks.
  5. I don't know why everything has to be so fast to take down anyway. If its your only firearm in an emergency and it needs cleaned immediately to function,I guess your SOL.Should have kept it clean and ready.
I like taking the 45 carbine apart.Have only did it once and it didn't even need it.Just sitting around in the cave one day and its enjoyable to see how things work/put together.I suppose a quick dismantle/cleaning/reassemble would entail all of 15-20 minutes.

Its not speed. Its laziness. I want something easy to take apart and put back together without tools.

Actually, there is plenty of room in the HP grip, it is fatter than MANY Double Stack
setups. I took down a 4595 and found that there are a bunch of separate "fins"
inside the grip, that could be trimmed out to make room for a DS Mag (IMO).
The only real trouble spot with a DS Mag is the receiver. It is so narrow that any
DS Mag would need at least 1.5" of Single Stack Column, and a combo mag of
this style takes extra springs and a 2 piece follower. The DS Makarov Mag, to wit:

IMO that would be more like an aftermarket jobber solution, and ProMag is
not the answer for that :p They can't even get a decent working single stack
(or it took them YEARS, and several generations!) for the 995 so this is
    beyond their capabilities IMO.
Barring a HUGE Departure in Opinion between Strassel and Mr. Deebs, I
foresee no major changes like that. We can always hope and wish, but you
know what the say about wishing ;) :D
  8. Thanks for the pics and explanation Underground! Some things are best left simple.IMO.:)

Well, a similar design is in "current use", that being the Surefire 60 and 100 round
"Quad-Stack" AR 15 magazines. he 60 is widely recognized as being very
reliable, but the 100 round is problematic... 100's usually go CHEAPER than a 60!

Mole has a better chance of hookin' up with E's sister than you have of getting a double stack carbine or hi cap factory mag.

True laziness leads one to the following solution...bore snakes, and spray cans of Gun Scrubber.:p

The manual says 400-500 rounds between cleaning.:)

I'd rather take the money and reconfigure the HP for those glunk mags
Or just build an AR/Glock Mag Receiver... ;) overpriced P.O.S. :p
