Well. I'm pretty set on the following things for this build.
C7 upper receiver
10.5"-12" barrel with Carbine Gas
6.5 Grendel or 6.8 Rem SPCII, will decide when time comes
A2 grip swiped from the .223 Wylde 16" carbine
Skinny 7 hole carbine handguard swap from .223 Wylde 16 build, which likely will get the PSA fat handguard set
Triangle FSB
Pistol brace, not 100% sure yet, the brace with the M4 style waffle slots looks way too bulky for this build... KAK shockwave is closer, but would be modified into a shark fin shape (triangle) and round off the sides as much as possible to get close to the CAR 15 look... if someone comes up with a simple, old school CAR styled shark fin stabilizer brace that uses the CAR adjuster, I'd be all over it.

I got this lower in a trade for the Diamondback plate carrier thats been for sale for a long time.

The only things I could find regarding the "modifications are illegal on pistol braces" was the 2018 Ohio case, in which the Court found the defendant not guilty and handed the ATF their asses for the whole 13.5 inch LOP "rule" that apparently was not made public by the ATF.

Nothing else about ATF saying if I removed some plastic material(the extra strap loops being the main example, and rounding of the cheek rest area) from the brace, it becomes an illegal device. It's a moot point anyhow, I'm looking real hard at the Magpul BSL thing, which is the closest to what I have in mind.

You just want to be very careful not to have "someone" say that you've changed the build's classification from a pistol to an SBR or AOW.

manufacturers warning so people don't make them stock like. do what you like, but, if you have to use it, it's a way of some libtard court to call it an illegal weapon.
So...don't modify anything, just buy our versions so we can make more money.

Manufacturers don't make laws. Many don't even know the law. And it's not a law, it's an interpretation of a guideline based on a law.

"Someone" should have better things to do than that. Filing off a few freaking sling slots does NOT change the function, in fact it is ABSOLUTELY logical that it makes it LESS rifle like, as it's now harder to connect a sling.

I have a completely legal length adjustable brace. Looks very similar to the non adjustable version.

Extended

Collapsed

Non-adjustable.

Call me a pussy I wouldn’t want to go to court to be acquitted $3M in legal fees later.

That's why I chose to live out here on the edge of nowhere. No need to play their stupid games or pretend something is or isn't. There's no undercover agent at the range, there's no nosey leftist neighbors, you follow the rules, and don't worry about "what if" or "what about".

CMMG Premium lower build kit from Primary Arms, and Brownells' C7 stripped upper both arrived today. I think I'm going to do 6.5 Grendel, I can get a Faxon 12" carbine gas barrel, and in black. Ammo is more readily available here than the 6.8 SPC. Will be getting the parts slowly, while juggling baby time.

Ammo availability and barrel prices drove my choice back to 6.5 Grendel. Getting a Monster 12" 6.5 Grendel barrel from SixFive Arms, and got a bunch of things at a local gun shop..
All thats left... the complete BCG, A1 rear sight assembly, gas tube, and muzzle device after I receive the barrel. Not sure which muzzle device I want. Brace will be Magpul BSL whenever it gets released.

A2 front sight is drilled and tapped for set screws on the bottom, and is .750" diameter. Carbine handguard set has the older 6-hole style halves, no heatshields though, but it came with end cap and barrel nut/ring assembly.
