OK I picked up a Modelo 1891 Argentine Mauser. I love it but ammo is no were to be found. This leaves me one option. Load my own. So i ordered some dies from midway, problem still is i cant get bullets or molds, for her. So if someone could point me in the right direction, i would be very happy. Also does anyone else have any experience with these rifles? I read that i can make cases outta a 30-06 piece. Has anyone done it? Thanks for the input guys -Bob

OK so my research has shown me that yes you can make good cases from 30-06 brass. Works for me as i have tons of 30-06, so brass is covered, Second issue, the bullets. Looks like typical bullet size used is .311 Lead with gas checks are fairly common. Well i had been debating on trying a lead gas checked round for my 30-06's anyhow. So who knows if my 30-06 will eat a .311 bullet with out any issues? I hope so as this way i only need to buy one mold.
30-06 should be sized .309. it MAY eat a 311 bullet without problem, it may blow up in your face. the only way to know for sure is the slug the barrel and measure it. if it measure 308 or 309 then no. if it measure 310 or larger, its fine.

order a .311 mold, and a .311 and .309 sizing die. problem solved...

you really cant order a mold by size. you can order a 30 caliber mold and then size to suit. You CAN ream a mold using a bullet and something akin to valve grinding compound to increase the size of the mold if it drops undersize bullets, but you risk ruining concentricity of the mold doing so.

Yeah I would order a mold that is supposed to drop .312" bullets, Lee has a few of em designed for 7.62x39 and .303 british. they are 155gn 160gn and 185gn weights respectively. I have the 160 grain tumble lube one that I use for 7.62x39, I would just order the .309 and .311 bullet sizing dies and that way you can use that same bullet for either weapon. Just be sure to keep them separated and know for sure which ones are sized to which diameter before loading them.

On the converse end you might be able to shoot .309 bullets in your Marlin but they might be less than accurate.

Problem solved! Ordered a mold for the 303 brit from lee. And i will order two diffrent sizing kits next week. Midway wont shipp the kits to AK for some fubar reason. And wouldnt ya know it i go to midway planning on spending 50$ and drop $200.. :-[..lol.....i hate those bastards.......
Dude, have it shipped to your family and then have them ship it to you... Yeah, you'll pay more in shipping, but I don't think anybody in the business ships faster than Midway other than Hi-Point themselves or Benny at Milsurpstuff.com.
The reason is midway uses ups, and everything going to AK has to go 2nd day air.
No the stuff coming here comes air but standard priority not second day. I called em up on it and was told that UPS considers it and the postal service consider ALOX a haz-mat item. I order it from ebay all the time and it comes flat rate. I also order from midwesthunters.com but they only ship via fed ex. I get cheap shipping but it takes like three weeks. OH well such is life i guess. The way i see it waiting and shipping is a small price to pay for true freedom.....
check this out for your alox needs

priority mail is how i got mine.
Yeah thats the stuff i got from e-bay. I like it better then the lee stuff. I am going to order several bottles next spring. I dont know if freezing would hurt the stuff and i dont want to run any risk of it freezing in transport.
