Jars of peanut butter stashed in a traveler’s checked luggage at John F. Kennedy International Airport triggered an alarm which resulted in his arrest by TSA officers. A checked bag set off an alarm while passing through an X-ray.
They removed two jars of JIF creamy peanut butter from the luggage, each of which contained pieces of a dismantled semi-automatic handgun “artfully concealed inside,” the agency stated.

The parts, including a magazine loaded with bullets, were encased in plastic and shoved into the peanut butter, according to the agency.

Those rounds in that mag are definitely not 22 rounds, I think you guys nailed it.

Those checked baggage scanners are some pretty good tech. When the machine detects a shape a metal bar swings at mach 2, knocking the luggage down a chute, ending up in an area for inspection.

I used to travel for a hunting trip every year with a couple of boxes of ammo in my checked baggage. I would always end up with a tsa informational card in my bag that stated my bag was searched. One year I arrived at my destination with hunting clothes hanging out the top of an incorrectly closed overstuffed G.I. duffel bag. I didn’t lose any of my stuff. After that I quit hauling ammo and just had some waiting at my Dad’s house.

While I was waiting for a spot to open up at the Fire Academy, I spent 6 months working for a government contractor that made a lot of the panels, processors, and chip carriers for companies like Lockheed and BAE. I worked in Laser Drills and also did panel inspections. Basically every panel would get layers added to it and it was our job to clear the pin locations for tool setting and thru-holes for pathways and component placement. We also made the "Victory" and "Phoenix" panels for the TSA baggage and full body scanners.

And my knowledge of the system is darn near twenty years old. It was the system installed post 9-11. The terminal I fly out of was going through a remodel at the time (9-11) and came to a full stop for quite some time. When it resumed it had tons of fed dot gov money and all the latest in tech incorporated. I can only imagine the tech in airports now....

Yeah I worked there in 2008 or '09? The Phoenix panels were huge, I want to say 20"×30"? For the backscatter body scanners that showed off all the bits and pieces. 😆

If you're gonna waste money putting guns in peanut butter, at least use the cheap stuff, like from Sam's Club. That stuff has lots of oil, great protectant.
