Today I had to put my Big Dog down. I rescued him almost 11 years ago. Seizures, cancer, heartworms, deaf, going blind, losing his balance, etc. 14-15 years is a long ride. I'm glad I got to walk with him for as long as I did.

He was a great dog. When I was there all he wanted was to be petted.

Sucks Rach... I am sorry. It was best for him, but way easier said than done...

You will see him again, just not yet, you got a ways to go!!

Not looking forward to that happening again. I hope it's 4 years+ before it happens again.

He was a big dog.Luckily he had a really long life. Dogs are the best. Sorry. It is rally hard to see them leave.

He absolutely was. We got Haze a few months after I won permanent physical custody of my boys. So they grew up with him.

I never like these stories. So sorry.

Damn it, now my eyes are leaking from remembering to have to put down our little girl a few years back. She was an English Bull Terrier going on 15. Deaf from birth. We used hand signals to communicate to her.

Thanks, y'all. I do appreciate it. I've been sitting here second guessing myself since before Christmas. Did I wait too long, did he have more time, should I have had the tumor removed instead, would he have survived the surgery?

I have to believe the cold snap closing my new vet the day it was supposed to happen and then seeing that his old vet's office was reopening with a new vet to do as-needed services and his old vet doing end of life services for Peaceful Passings was the sign I needed that I was doing the right thing at the right time.

I think you did fine by him.

He knew it. He accepted it. He loves his family enough to know ya'll loved him.

Rest easily.

Sad day brother. Let me count the times. You may think about replacing him. They are very, very hard to live without. I just think of it as one day way, way down the road I will wake up and all the pets I've owned will come running to me in a joyous reunion. That just makes it a little easier for me. Press on Brother. ;)
