Panic buyer from Seattle

I've been tempted to get a HiPoint carbine and a High Tower bullpup stock for at least a year. On December 20, I woke up to a Seattle Times headline that the state government was planning to enact an "assault weapon" ban this year, which put an end to my torpor and procrastination. Within an hour I had ordered a 9 mm carbine.

I was tempted to get a 10 mm (or more likely both calibers) since I used to have a couple of 10 mm pistols and still have all the reloading gear. I would do that if I wasn't too lazy to hunt, since at short range (100 yards at least, which would suit the woods of Western Washington) a 10 mm bullpup would be a hilarious but adequate "deer rifle." Since I prefer to buy meat at the grocery store or farmers' market and will use this gun mainly for plinking (and perhaps SHTF, if the Cascadian Subduction Zone cuts loose in the next decade), the 9 mm seemed wisest. Also, I hate chasing 10 mm brass.

OTOH, if I lived in the South and had access to hog hunting, I would definitely get a 10 mm and load it to the gills with Longshot powder and the toughest bullet I could get to cycle reliably!

I was slow to go to the FFL after it came in from the distributor (waiting for another gun to arrive from a Gunbroker transaction so I didn't have to make two trips to fill out 4473s), so my carbine is in "jail" for about another week. Hopefully that delay won't come back to bite me. Technically, it would be possible for the legislature to rush the AWB bill through quickly enough to kill my purchase, but that's pretty unlikely (I hope!), although they are moving the bill faster than I expected.

The bullpup stock and a Vortex Sparc2 to go on it arrived a couple of days ago.

edit: Other guns I have include a Ruger 10/22, three Ruger MkIIs, a High Standard Sport King, a High Standard High Sierra revolver, a S&W K22 (pre-model 17), a Colt Police Positive Special .32-20, a Bersa 380CC, a Dan Wesson Pointman9, a Ruger GP100 .357, a Rossi R92 .357, a Ruger Redhawk .43 Magnum and a Springfield Range Officer .45. Sold off a couple of EAA 10 mm pistols because they were aggravating my flinch.

Welcome! Sounds like you've got a nice collection!
Good luck with it, and you do have a good amount of stuff, I assume you reload for all of it? If not stock up while you can - Washington is going the way of NY/Oregon/NJ etc etc if not worse.

Beautiful state with horrible politics...

Anyway, yes welcome to the forum and enjoy your HP - the HTA trigger is kinda crappy, but so are most bullpup conversion stocks - but it works and looks great.

Hang in and vote! Contact your representatives let them know how you feel.
The GOA, 2AF, and FPC will be fighting for your 2A rights if they aren't already there. They're stomping on fires like a herd of big footed ducks all over the country.

NRA? WHERE ARE THOSE RETARDS?

Those organizations couldn't stop 1639 in WA, they won't accomplish anything on this either. Inslee and Ferguson have got to go if anything is going to change. I am so glad I got out of WA when I did. I was really bummed when they voted Patty Murray back in- I was really hoping Smiley would win that seat- but unfortunately mental illness has spread so pervasively through King and Pierce counties people keep voting to cut off their nose to spite their face.

Sure can win. It will be just like NYS, and NJ. It will be hard to enforce the SCOTUS decision. Lawyers, and lots of money. It's a fight for survival of the USA, and the constitution. It's winnable. It won't come cheap.

Are you holding your breath? I'm not.

Exactly. Fighting the long fight is great…but it does nothing for me now, and some of us don’t have much “now” left.
Not to mention the fact that every time you win one battle, they open up two more fronts and you’re back where you started, if not worse.

Not to mention I literally just watched our 'President' during his MLK speech say he is still going to take our ar15s, among other garbage. Took him 20 minutes before he mentioned MLK, aside from singing happy birthday at the beginning. Jackass JOKE of a commander in chief.

It is so sad that an assault weapons ban will affect your ability to own a HiPoint carbine. Since when did the HP Carbine become an Assault weapon?
Welcome from the Great Southwest! My state is fixin to pass the same kinda crap btw.

They are getting tossed in there because of the pistol grip...I think.

Semi-automatic firearm with a pistol grip and detachable magazine. Those are the criteria used for NY's SAFE Act and several other nanny states.

I cannot stand even hearing him talk for thirty seconds. All the idiot can probably think about is when he is getting his next ice cream cone. Democrats are going to kick him to the curb to go out with the trash soon. They want someone else in the office of President. Time to renew my Gun Owners of America membership.

Thank goodness I live in a free State presently. No proposed citizen gun bans are going to get through in my State anytime soon. And I also heard DeSantis said they are going to get concealed Constitution carry passed in Florida in 2023. That will be about twenty-six States that have 2nd Amendment concealed carry.

This may sound weird, but I have never heard a single speech that he has given (except for blooper excerpts)
