The stars must have been aligned correctly this weekend. After reading this post, I saw an ad for my LGS that had the Phoenix HP-22s on sale for $118. What wasn’t advertised was that if you bought one, a brick of 22LR was only an additional $20….Too good to pass up. (Haven't seen a brick of 22LR in three years where I live.) Quick trip to the LGS Friday and took one home.

Put 100 rounds through it Saturday with no failures of any kind, right out of the box. I was also surprised how accurate this little pistol shoots.

I have been concentrating so much on long range shooting and defensive training that I had forgotten how much fun it was to just “plink”. Really happy to have this pistol in that I can shoot without many worries. The down side is my girlfriend took one look at it and declared she wanted one for herself. So we were off to the LGS on Sunday to pick up a second one.:)

I keep trying to find a recoil spring for the HP-22 that is slightly stronger, but still fits in the narrow range of spring compression.

Anyone found a spring yet that will help retard the slide momentum and reduce the stress on the frame without binding?

I thought about that too, but perhaps a better solution would be a
Recoil Buffer, which would damp out the slide to frame impact while
not affecting recoil velocity and slide movement at all. Most auto
loading pistols have a place where a recoil buffer can be safely installed.
Yea, me too. But the space available for a buffer is non-excitant, given how the spring is already fully compressed on extraction/ejection. There doesn't seem to be any room in the spring area with that design.

Still looking for ideas though. Maybe a flash of brilliance will hit some day.
