I'm getting a PA HP22 this month, and I was wondering what ammo do you guys prefer?

Also, what do you think of the HP22?

yeah, i bought mine about a month ago. it feels good to me (i have small hands) and didnt mind paying 150 for it with the life time warrenty. like everyone said at first the safetys are a pain but once you get used to them your good to go.
I have been using Blazer bulk in mine. No issues....
I just bought the range kit last week.. waiting for the delivery man.... come on man... bring me my gun....

Might need to polish the area where the slide contacts the frame on the new barrel. Mine ran 100% with the short barrel but choked with the extended one. Why? The contact points on the extended barrel and the feed ramp were a bit rougher on the extended barrel. A little polishing and the extension works great.
Just got mine today... goes to the range Wednesday.... I tried changing barrels just to know how to, dam... almost took out an eye.. dam spring shot 20 feet.. actually shot away from about 5 times, almost lost the dam thing... that spring is very very tricky to get back in and together... cant wait to see how it handles on the range...

The trick is to put your finger over the spring and then pull the slide back until you can use the safety to manually lock the slide back. Then the barrel clips right in. It really isn't a problem once you get used to it.

If you take the short barrel and place it on top of the slide backwards (muzzle end up against the breech), that will hold the spring in place nicely. You can also use the narrow side of a magazine.

It's a bit of a bear to get used to, I know, but it's not too bad once you get a couple of tricks down. If you call Phoenix and tell them your recoil spring is wearing out, they'll send you a pack of replacements free. It's recommended you replace the spring every 500 rounds or so anyway to prevent frame cracks.
I'm not saying anything is wrong with the HP22, and I know it costs much more for the S&W, but its funny how the S&W 22a will let me swap any of the three barrels with any of the three frames. No parts come loose, one button to push.

I just wish that someday, I could actually see an HP22 in the wild. I have never seen one at a store, or anywhere.:(

I saw one at one of my LGS's. I asked to see it and the counter guy immediately asked what I wanted it for and then started trying to talk me into a larger, higher dollar, 22. I told him thank you and left. I ended up buying a different gun elsewhere, but it was still a pocket sized .22LR instead of the Walther P22 he tried to upsell me on. And I didn't buy it from him. I was motivated to buy at the time too.

I guess there are still some folks who will shoot themselves in the foot by offering unsolicited advice.

I'd rather have the Phoenix over the Walther P22 anyways. Those things are way too pricey for what they are and my P22 sucked. If I was going to get a gun like that I'd buy the SR22.

This.

I think of them as the 10/22 of the pistol world. Looks nifty, has a few models and a few accessories, like a fake can, which means for some reason, they can charge $100 too much, and people will pay it with a smile.

Women pay ridiculous prices for fake cans all the time. Fake silencers too. :D

I'd pay more than the 200$ for the tax stamp for a silencer that worked on a 13 year old daughter.

I have never seen one in the wild. But every now and then a traveling gun zoo will come threw. And there is always 10-20 of them.

They are like davis guns. Almost never see one in a store. But you can bet there will be plenty at a gun show, and someone will always buy one

At the time I was looking for options in POCKET .22's for my wife.

She ended up not wanting the Phoenix (so I didn't buy one) but there's NO WAY a P22 could be considered a "pocket" 22. :p

ammo for the hp22, I have had good luck recently finding sub sonic rounds. I wouldn't be afraid to go up to 1200 fps. beyond that and its just a matter of time.
Had my phoenix on the range last thursday.. did pretty well. Put winchester and thunderbolt thru it, gun was great. I couldnt hit the target at 50 ft.. oh wait I think I did 2 out of 20.. im not the best aimer.. thinkn about gettn a scope for the 5" barrel.. luv the weight and feel of the gun..
Don't hate the P22. Especially those made after late-2011. Walther redesigned them and resolved the issue with slide wear, etc. there were VERY FEW cracked slides. Every one I read about was the result of using Super-X, Singer or other "hyper" velocity ammo on a normal basis.

I've put near 5000 rounds of Mini-Mags through mine with ZERO issues. Granted, NOTHING else would go beyond 2-3 rounds before something didn't work right. It's a picky firearm, others can't shoot Mini-Mags only CCI Standard or Blazer Brass or Stinger or Thunderbolts. I've yet to learn of a single P22 that'll reliably (which to me is EVERY round) shoot multiple types of .22.

Even though I love that gun, I bought it for my daughter who's hands are the size of my palms. So, I recently bought a M&P22. Sweet gun. I've put half a dozen types of ammo through it and had zero issues. Either it's me or the gun wearing in, but at 25' it's not much more accurate than the P22. Need to shoot some longer ranges soon. But at 25' even my 100lb chronically ill daughter can put mag after mag into a 1-2" hole.

And I agree with Kirk, the P22 is just a bit to large for a pocket carry.

Mine was way off with the sight. It still shoots a bit low but I can compensate for that. It was out about 2 feet to the right out of the box
The stars must have been aligned correctly this weekend. After reading this post, I saw an ad for my LGS that had the Phoenix HP-22s on sale for $118. What wasn’t advertised was that if you bought one, a brick of 22LR was only an additional $20….Too good to pass up. (Haven't seen a brick of 22LR in three years where I live.) Quick trip to the LGS Friday and took one home.

Put 100 rounds through it Saturday with no failures of any kind, right out of the box. I was also surprised how accurate this little pistol shoots.

I have been concentrating so much on long range shooting and defensive training that I had forgotten how much fun it was to just “plink”. Really happy to have this pistol in that I can shoot without many worries. The down side is my girlfriend took one look at it and declared she wanted one for herself. So we were off to the LGS on Sunday to pick up a second one.:)
