Went to the local range. Real nice day. There was a light wind and it was cloudy. I brought my Ruger 10/22 and Savage 17 HMR, model 93R17LH. Take a look. I had a ball!

Aries,

Those look like some nice groups @ 50yards.

Is the Savage 17 HMR, model 93R17LH you have similar to the Savage 17 HMR, Model 93R17-GLV Left-hand on their web site?

I am in the market for a 17HMR since my Remington 597 17HMR was recalled.

Damn fine shooting there. I recently aquired a 10/22 myself and am in love with shooting it. Very accurate guns. Now all I need is a better scope than my crappy Tasco 4X15 I think it is.
Thanks. It is alot of fun.

Aries,

Looks like I need to check out pricing on the savage. What brand of scope and rings you using on it?

Also, like the 10/22. Been thinking about switching out one of mine with the Boyds stock.

Thanks,

Walt
I think I paid around 240.00 for this left handed Savage. I put a Barska 6.5-20x50mm Varmint scope with Millette 1" high adj. Scope rings. I love this scope. I do not think I could have gotten a better one for the price. I would have put one on the 10/22 if it would have come in silver.

Have you tried any 20gr ammo? I find out of my 93R17 BTVS I get much tighter groups. I usually get a 50 yard groups at or under 1/2 inch with Winchester 20gr game points and 3/4 to 1 inch with most 17gr loads.

When do you plan to add the heavy barrel to your 10/22? Bass Pro had a good price on the Adams and Bennett heavy barrel ($119.95) when I last looked. I have that barrel and with Aguila match rifle or SK rifle match I get 3/8 inch 25 yard and 1/2 inch 50 yard groups.

Thanks for the info. . I do not have the cash for a barrel right now. I think I will have the money in a month or so.

Will check with my LGS's and local Wally World. Seen the Right hand combo in my LGS's flyer for $249.99. But does a southpaw like me no good for fast follow up shots.

Found the Barska @ Cheaper Than Dirt for less than $60 + shipping. Guess that's a good price?

Thanks for the info.

I looked for a combo gun but no one had one for a lefty here. If you end up with the Barska scope I sure you will like it as much as I do!

What kind of scope on the 10/22?
I'm looking for one that goes up to 20x or 24x for my Marlin 7000. I started looking at Barska and Tasco, they got shot down pretty quick at rimfire central mainly because they were mil-dot and i will be shooting 50yr target, so fine crosshair or target dot is better from what they are saying. So now i'm looking at BSA and Tasco target dot scopes. Anybody have BSA or Tasco input, that would be much appericated. Nice Groups BTW!

The 10/22 would have been closer grouped with decent ammo, lot of difference between bulk 22LR out of an auto-loader and CCI .17 out of a bolt action. Some pretty good shooting especially if you werent using a bench rest.
