At the end of the column is her reasoning for vetoing the gun-law change. IMHO even she didn't interpret it right, just made a broad statement about why she vetoed it.

I dunno, if a potential BG is caught carrying without a permit, should he not get more than a ticket and get to keep his weapon?

Or am I missing something?

possibly the fact that we are ALL potential BG, despite how highly we think of ourselves. And of coarse the 2A never mentioned the right to bear with stipulation of having the required permits to buy, permits to carry, premises permits, soon permits to buy ammo, ect.. In fact I think i read something about 'not infringed'.

The LAST thing we need to be doing is reducing sentences for drunk driving. And if it's illegal to carry concealed, the good guys will get permits. This law wouldn't have helped the good guys, because it would still be illegal to concealed-carry.

They need to repeal the law, or leave it alone. Softening sentences only helps the bad guys.

I'd vote for that Governor.

Thats kind of the way I was looking at it too.

Little off topic, but in my drinking days I knew a guy that got sent up after his 4th or 5th DWI when he finally killed someone.

The night he got out of prison, he was drinking and driving.

There are people out there who are not willing to learn and those are the ones that get laws most of us hate or dont agree with shoved down our throats.

I am in total agreement on the DUI thing, DUI is a menace on the roadways with the potential to kill or maim more people than a handgun.

I was referring to the firearms part because this is kinda a ..... firearm forum.

She also turned aside legislation to weaken penalties against violators of Arizona's concealed-weapons law.

That measure, House Bill 2630, would have made it a petty offense punishable by a fine alone for an individual to carry a concealed weapon without a state permit. It also would have barred law-enforcement officials in those instances from confiscating the weapon

Supporters such as bill sponsor Sen. Karen Johnson, a Mesa Republican, noted that Arizona law already grants wide leeway for individuals to carry weapons in the open. The bill, they argued, would have reduced criminal penalties in case of an accidental violation of the law, such as if an individual's jacket temporarily concealed a holster.

My take on the FIREARMS part of the bill is. It would remove the ability of the cops to confiscate your weapon and levy harsh penalties for a minor violation or a shade of gray. A shade of gray would be something like, you are driving down the road with your handgun on the back seat in plain view and that is legal. Then you roll down your window to get some fresh air and your jacket sleeve (jacket was also on back seat NEXT to handgun) blows and parially covers your handgun, you now are illegaly concealing a handgun without a permit, all without your knowledge in the blink of an eye you went from lawfull citizen to criminal with a firearms violation on your record. not my hypothetical scenario but the republican senator that sponsored the bill.

I don't know what the laws are in AZ, but in UT, you're supposed to transport weapons in a case, if you don't have a permit...

I tend to look at things in black and white, its a flaw of mine.


How many people do we hear about who get caught carrying a loaded pistol under their seat, or down the back of their pants illegally? Or during the high speed chase the loaded gun flies out the window.

Happens all of the time, doesn't it? What was their reason to illegally carry? To bust a cap on someone, or rob a store? Surely nothing legal since they are knowingly breaking the law right off of the bat in the way they are transporting the weapon in the first place.

No grey area there, sorry.

I do not have a CC permit, if I am carrying, they should bust my butt and put me in jail and take my gun, because I know I am carrying illegally and if I turn my nose up to that law, what other laws am I willing to break?

The whole idea of having a permit should be to weed out the people who are habitual criminals, wife beaters and the such from having a legal weapon on their possesion.

Give me a ticket and let me keep my gun? I will probably go to the liquor store that I was on the way to rob before being inconvenienced by the police stop.

If a person is worried about crime and feel they need to carry, they need to do it legally IMO.

There is no excuse for anything else. Just my opinion.

To me, passing that law would have sent the wrong message to the wrong people. Stick a .25 auto in your back pocket, whats the worse thats gonna happen, get a ticket?

There are many more instances of the above than their are of people forgetting to take the pistol out of the car after going to the range.

That happened to my wife and she got spanked hard for it. She should have remembered to take it out. No excuse.

I did some reading and should have included this link about the gun-law, since this is a gun forum. I totally agree with the DUI laws and have no problems with them as they stand.
