I just bought a used 995TS. It did not come with sights. So I called Hi-Point customer service and they mailed out sights and a manual. It was a great customer service experience.

The problem is with the rear sight. When I mount the sight there is nothing for the longer elevation screw to thread into. The rail has a hole but it is not threaded. It seems like the elevation screw should thread into some part of the sight's base. It looks like some part is missing or I'm just being dumb. Any help and maybe a pic or two would be much appreciated!

Considering you bought used, probably the previous owner removed the rear sight hold-down nut/flat metal system that goes inside the stock. You'll need to call CS back and have them send you the rear sight hold-down assembly for the rear sight.

It's been so long since I took off my rear sight to attach scope rings, you'll need to look at the TS's schematic to verify how that rear iron sight hold-down that's within the stock works.

Don't forget to also get the sling, sling mounts(2), new firing pin and spring(s), owner's manual, trigger lock, trigger/sear/slide springs also for spares in the future. Just having everything that the factory sent out with the carbine and also spares of, is a great thing to have. HP has the best warranty with helping their customers in sending out replacement parts, and all of it for free.

The rifle actually did have the threaded metal plates, but Hi-Point sent me another set along with screws. It looks to me like the threaded plates are what the pic/weaver rail is screwed to and then the sight is screwed to threaded holes in the rail. For me this works for 3 of the screws from the sight. But the longer screw for the elevation adjustment only reaches through the rail - not long enough to reach the threaded plates. Anyway, both of the threaded holes on the rear plate are taken by screws holding the pic/weaver rail down. If the hole in the rail that the elevation screw goes through was threaded it would work, but it has no threads.

So the elevation screw is supposed to thread into the pic rail?
Yes. And depending on how old your carbine is, they're not picatinny rails. They're Weaver-esque, unless they have the HP logo embossed on them to signify that they are the brand new rails.

Thank for the help! The pic explains a lot. The rail that came with my used 995TS is aluminum so I'm assuming that means it is aftermarket. I called HP again today and they are sending me a factory rail. Apparently is is polymer and the elevation screw cuts its own treads in it. I might try epoxying a 4-40 nut to the top of the oversized non-threaded hole in the rail where the elevation screw goes.

Better off making a relief cut in the rail itself to embed the nut and maintain clearances for any other optic you may eventually decide to try.
