A couple of years ago I had 5 or 6 handguns stolen along with a couple of large toolboxes and some cordless tools. The guy who stole my stuff used my Taurus PT940 to threaten a few people. He was a known felon at the time. After he was arrested I got back everything but the Taurus.

Well, just a few days ago he finally pleaded guilty to many/all charges. The following day the judge and prosecutor signed the release of my Taurus back into my possession. It was secured by the sheriff department in the evidence locker. I’m a friend of our County Sheriff and he personally delivered the gun to my house. Signed a couple of documents and all is good.

Well…..it did take a few years, for some folks, that’s a horror show.
But yeah, the lack of drama over doing the right thing is nice.👍

I had one recovered that went missing during the great fire of ‘99. Like @GoesBang a bad guy had it. Got a call from the sheriff department asking if I wanted it back, or should they destroy it. Of course I wanted it back. When I picked it up they just handed it over, can not remember signing any papers, but maybe I did. Whit I remember is walking down the hall past the courtroom carrying a pistol. I asked if they did not want to walk it out, but they declined.

Happy ending. Excellent! Having friends like that is cool to boot!

After many years of gun forum(s) posts on this topic and the "horror" stories this is a good 'un. I recall bits and pieces of one bad one that turned out good also; self defense shooting, blood splatter on gun, police department cleaned and lubed, returned after ruled a good shoot. Don't recall timeline.

Not a recovery story, but this thread reminds me of several years ago I had a particularly bad SVT attack. The nurse found my CCW when they were undressing me. She alerted the doctor, I did not particularly care, thought I was checking out anyway, The doctor took control of my CCW.

They stabalized me and called for a transport to carry me to another hospital. The paramedics put my belongings bag between my legs and let me know my CCW was there. At the other hospital they told me that my CCW was in the cabinet and that I should just leave it there. I stayed about a week, and it rode out with me when they wheeled me out.

I wonder what would of happened today?

Depends on where you are. Some places would probably lose their collective shit and try to prosecute you as a domestic terrorist and you’d NEVER see it again.

Probably have you held for for a 72 hour psych evaluation. Good luck with that.
