i think remy might get sued over thier lowball price. you cant screw people over on a product liek that and not pay them full retail rpice. as long as they can com eup with proof of purchase price, remy should refund that in full

SW
+1 if you are the original purchaser especially with a receipt you should get back exactly what you paid for since it seems they have released an unsafe firearm into the marketplace. I can maybe see the set price if you send it in without a proof of purchase but not as an across the board policy when you purchased the firearm in good faith.

I cannot find where the 597 is listed as a .17. I have the 2009 Remmington catalog and a seperate price list and the 597 is listed as a .22 caliber and as a .22 win mag only. Where are yall finding that the 597 is a .17 caliber?

Especially considering they are not giving a refund per se, but rather a coupon good toward the purchase of another Remington product... yeah, thanks Remington.

Sorry to hear some of you might gett shafted on the price. I'd been looking at the Remington 597 22lr with scope at Academy for my daughter at $180 but this has kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. Time to look at the Marlin and Savage I guess. X

I have had no problems at all out of my 597 .22LR, and it shoots some of the tightest groups I have ever shot out of a rifle. Bass Pro had one listed for something like $140 this past weekend, no scope, which I recommend, because if you buy the scope package, you do not get the fixed sights.

According to the folks at rimfirecentral, other semi-auto .17HMRs are known to have KB issues, too. Volquartsen looks to be the one safe bet, but then, at four figure prices, it dang well ought to be a safe bet.

I had both the Ruger 10/22 17HMR and 22 magnum prior to the Remington 597 17HMR. Ruger had issues with both of these also. They had strict operation and cleaning instructions in the Manuals. While they didn't recall them. They did replace both of mine with Ruger 10/22T Blued rifles when they were sent in for repair. Which was a fair trade IMO.

As for buying my new Remington Model 700's. That is now shelved permanently. Guess its time to research Ruger, Savage, Winchester, ETC for new rifles.
