True, but I'm a tinkerer. I love being able to say, "yeah. I made that." I've done lots of long slide conversion research and hunting, it's just a matter of having the money available AND not having some random BS pop up to take it away.
I definitely get that. I think 1/2 the weapons I have built was because I wanted to try this n that, tinkering is half the fun!!

I tried Lee, rcbs, and Hornady, wound up using the Hornady to get the best results. I also highly recommend getting a Sheridan precision cut away round gauge. It'll show you where you're problems lie if you're having any feed or extraction problems. Here's a new load I'm going to the range with today. 43gn. Solid bullets from Maker with two coats of dry Moly. 6.2 gn. AA #7 powder. CCI Sr primerEverything I see or read says that it can be a fiddly cartridge to reload for. Apparently the 2 big gotchas to watch for are 1) to not damage the coating on the brass and 2) the powder charges have a very narrow min/max spread. Accommodating the first seems pretty simple, just hand wash, hand brush, don't tumble and accept you won't get "shiny" brass to reload. The second is pretty doable as well; the first powder I started with in 9mm is Titegroup. I chose it because it had the lowest powder charges which stretches the number of rounds I can get from a pound. But it's fiddly as the day is long. Depending on the bullet, the blasted powder has a min/max spread of 0.3 to 0.4 grains! The min/max spread on the 5.7 is 0.6 to 0.8 grains depending on bullet and powder. That's literally twice the spread. Much less fiddly than Titegroup.
Of course, I'll have to buy dies. Lee makes dies, but they're expensive by Lee standards. $56-ish.

Those were the 43gn. Solid copper. I did order the 37 gn REX. Expanding bullets as well. I'm not sure if Maker discontinued these. I hope not.
LOL, on the brass net I purchased a Caldwell " butterfly" net that's adjustable and can either be put on a stand or bench. At that time I only had the FN which throws brass about 20 feet . I was never able to line it up where it caught the lion's share of the brass so I bought approx. 5000 rd.s of once fired brass from a couple different vendors. The indoor range that I shoot the round is open for running combat drills so it isn't too hard to police the area when we're done.Ammo was delivered last night. Good grief that stuff seems tiny! I understand why it fit so many rounds in a mag and I understand why so many people find it challenging to reload for. Just the case mouth size alone is going to have its own challenges.
I'm contemplating building some sort of table-top brass net for when I take it to the outdoor range. PVC and netting or something. Any suggestions?
Now I'm just waiting on my reflex sight. Ammo is expensive enough that I bought a laser bore sighter to do an initial dial-in. I used to have one but I can't find it for the life of me. I probably loaned it to a former friend who just never returned it.

Just get a Caldwell rail mount brass catcher. I have 2 nets and 5 or 6 pic rail mounts, it's heat resistant even for 5.56 and easy to empty. Holds over 30 5.56 brass, should hold 50 of these squirts...Ammo was delivered last night. Good grief that stuff seems tiny!
