@ajole You're a S&W M&P fan, right? IMS, I did prognosticate that other brands were going to be making 5.7 guns soon.

This Ammo Land article (off site link) states that it's a Gas Operated system. Interesting.

That's actually a pretty cool setup. I was trying to find out if it was more like my M&P40 or their Shield(+) line and the answer is, 🤷‍♂️
The more manufacturers there are producing 5.7x28 pistols, the more prolific and cheaper the ammo might become. This isn't some lame fad round like the .45 GAP. It has unique features, and it would be nice to see it continue gaining greater acceptance as it already seems to be doing.

There are more manufactures making 5.7 firearms than I thought. A non-exhaustive list, just scraping Buds:
  • FN
  • Kel Tec
  • Ruger
  • PSA
  • S&W
  • CMMG
  • Diamondback
  • Masterpiece Arms
  • Excel Arms
I really like the way that this particular Excel model looks. It has the Automag vibe going on.

The S&W 5.7 is probably the most interesting innovation I have seen in a pistol in a long time. I am digging it. I got out of the 5.7 when I sold my PS90 along with all the rounds I had. I kinda wish I had kept the rounds. The I could justify to my wife "Well, I got all these rounds and nothing to shoot em with, I need to get another gun".

Nope, not the M&P. I like the trigger, but the grips don't make me happy.

On the other hand, the S&W 22's are all the right stuff, I'm a fanboi on those.

And that 5.7 has a lot of good looks and features going on.

No I won't. At least, not as a user.;)
I've spent more than enough recently...22+1 9 mm XDm, Sig P226 in 357 Sig or 40, CZ 75, and a nifty new AR....plus a Sig P322 to hold a can!

Yup. I was in the gun store today, picking up 9mm, and they had quite a bit of 5.7mm on the shelves. It's average price was 45.99$/box.

I hope it goes down, even if I never get on that bandwagon. My nephew has an FN 5.7 pistol. Not sure if he had any buyers remorse, but the high ammo price does limit his use.

I lost interest in that caliber years ago. I still look at it every now and then to see if I'll change my mind.

I love my M&P full size .40 and .22.

What the ever living fonk did they do to the grip on this?

It’s not angled at all. Like they just glued a flattened toilet paper roll to the slide.

Is that because of the shape of the round?

Sounds kind of like me. I wouldn't say I've lost interest in the round, because I never really developed a serious interest in it, but I have always entertained a serious curiosity about it. I do still have a tingly notion in the back of my mind that might turn into an interest, though, and that's why I read up on new offerings in the caliber. If ammo prices go back down to $.30 per round like I recall them having been, I might jump on a PSA 5-7.

This looks great. Now if they would only make one with a 5 inch barrel like the others do... This is no edc .

No one is making compact versions of this. The PSA bbl is 4.7", the FiveseveN is 4.8", the Ruger is 4.9" and the S&W is exactly 5".

Pretty much everything else is that or longer. The Excel Arms MP-5.7 (pictured above) has a bbl of 8.5". The Diamondback Tactical Pistol DBX57CFB bbl is 8.5". The CMMG Pistol AR's in 5.7 are 5" exact, as is the Masterpiece Arms. The P50 is 9.5"

I think the only handgun in 5.7 which is seriously below the 5" mark is Excel Arms' weird X-series, originally chambered in 9mm, which bears a superficial resemblance to the TEC-9. It has a 4" bbl.

So if you're desire is for about a 5" bbl or better, then buy pretty much anything and you'll get what you want. :)

This looks like it would be a nice competition gun. The Excels have been around quite a while There's a rifle out by them called the Accelerator that's pretty cool looking too but it just seems to me that if you're going that route you might as well get a 5.56 and be done with it.

I'm not sure the bullets will stabilize in a shorter barrel unless you're using short ones like the TCM uses.
