Survival on a budget

Thought I would look at survival on a budget. Everybody doesn’t have the means to spend hundreds of dollars on survival gear. Some just might not want to have a lot invested for various reasons. Can you survive on a budget, or will you die? I think not only can you survive, but you can survive quite well.

Let’s look at a bag to carry your gear in and the 10 C’s. This will revolve mostly about Ozark Trails gear with other budget minded gear thrown in here and there.

The Outdoors Products Venture 17 liter backpack has proven itself to me. I have owned this pack for probably 6 or 7 years. If memory serves I paid $10 for this pack. Mine is in a sand color. The packs are still available today at Walmart for $15. The are most commonly found in green with tan trim, but I have seen them occasionally in black.


The back of this pack is lightly padded. The straps are wide and padded as well. There is also a sternum strap. This is a very comfortable pack.


The main pocket is almost a bucket style, which I am fond of. It does have a water bladder compartment with a tube port centered on the top back and a drain hole sewn into the bottom.
The pack has water bottle compartments on both sides.


There is a zippered electronics pouch on the top center of the pack, and a large admin pocket on the bottom. Both of these pockets are single zippered.


Speaking of the zippers. They are fine toothed and small. I halfway expected them to blow out. I have had this pack overstuffed many times and nary a problem with the zippers. The zippers are also quite water resistant. The pack has been exposed to the weather multiple times and I have yet to find the pack contents wet.
