From the article:
"New material from Federal has given us more insight into the performance of 30 Super Carry. Currently Federal lists their 100gr HST loading as providing 1250FPS, along with 347FT-LBS of energy, falling just 17FT-LBS short of their 124gr 9mm loading. The same 100gr load is claimed to gain roughly 15.5 inches of penetration with .530 inches of expansion in ballistics gel with a heavy clothing barrier. This exceeds Federal's quoted number of 14.5 inches of penetration for the previously mentioned 9mm HST."

I might just have to get me another Shield Plus.

Be careful, your Rugers might feel threatened

Great Post, Greg!!

So I'm now thinking SMIFF might bring out their own version of the FK BRUNO

Absolutely not! It ain’t going anywhere. But I would be interested in one. The article said it was available in a couple versions of the aShield EZ and the Shield Plus.

It’s also available in a 1911. Granted, it’s a $3000 1911, but a 1911 non the less. Unfortunately I won’t be buying one of those.

I have looked for info on the cartridge and it is scarce as hens teeth. It pushes a 100 to 115 grain bullet to 1200 fps, so should be the equivalent of the 30 Luger. Operates at 50K psi  ! I understand a straight wall cartridge, maybe something like a 30 carbine short? And the typical double stack 9mm magazine will gain 2 cartridges. The increased penetration over the 9mm would be due to SD.

I saw the comment preview and thought you meant the ammo is scarce, ( & I'm sure it is atm!) But that will change, with the big names on board. This will make a shield+ a real game changer, I'd like to see SMIFF regain their place atop the standings :D

If they can fit 20 9 mm in a CZ, they can darned well get 30 of these in a S&W, or they aren’t even trying.

BTW....SMIFF is stupid, and no shorter than typing Smith.

But, being smaller, will it also stack tighter in the same width?
Volume is a cube of the proportion of change in linear dimensions.

But the mag will not necessarily be as wide...
Depends on the designer.

In other news...
I myself am thinking about the mechanics of a triple stack... probably been tried and abandoned many times :(

.30 bullets have a very long and storied history of military and civilian success thanks to Saint JMB.

And it certainly wouldn't be the first time that something like dropping a caliber size but increasing the pressure and muzzle energy had been tried. The 327 Federal Magnum has been a moderate success, partially on the advantages of adding a chamber in hold out revolvers, moving from 5 rounds of 38 or 357 to 6 rounds of 327 as well as being able to fire the 32 mag and 32 long.

I'd say that there's a decent chance this could have moderate success in the same way. Imagine taking that Ruger Max 9 and adding two more rounds in for the same size with the same or Superior muzzle energy and ballistics. In the end performance and price will probably be the deciding factors.
