Anyone else had this problem? this is the first time it has happened to me and I should have taken a picture. Anyway when I was cleaning the rifle I took out the firing pin retainer and noticed the springs and firing pin didn't drop out so after I picked them out, I saw they were knarled and twisted together in a U shape....really odd, it took me almost 10 min to get them unraveled.

Had the exact problem you described happen. Discovered it after the firing pin had snapped off. Hi-Point sent me new springs and firing pin. The both replacement spring's coils were more closely spaced. I have not had a issue with the springs since.

kinked is the word you;re looking for. call HP and they'll send you a new one. it should be straight, not curled up like that.

Gotcha the springs were fine once I untwisted them, I was just wondering what could have caused that since the spring chamber is barely larger than the springs themselves?

Yea. The tech didn't seemed surprised that they got kinked. Just sent me the parts. Different looking firing pins (had a black coating) and two sets of springs. Funny part is the firing pin / springs operation seemed alot smoother when the sear was released or engaged. No more gritty / binding feeling. And so far the firing pin has lasted over 400 rounds with my ATI stock. Usually snapped off by now.
