well i started out with trail boss as a low cost plinking powder for my 357 magnum. worked it up into my 45-70 as an experiment with 500 gr cast bullets. max charge showed no pressure signs so i continued working up. i ended up maxing out the case capacity with no signs of pressure at all. i dont know why IMR is so conservative with load data but if you whoop up the charge with this stuff it really comes alive. i haven t had time ot run it across a chrono yet, but im guessing i at least doubled the FPS from the suggested max loading. it turned a pussycat 500 gr load into a potential hot rod.

as teh standard disclaimer, dont ever deviate from published data, yada yada yada.

SHEEEEE-IT... now I'm gonna have to get that gallon of Trail Boss they have down at Dave's on clearance. I guess nobody uses it around here and that things been sitting there for about 2 years from what they tell me.

Just a stupid question: Can TB be used in .30-30? I still need a powder for that and if it would work in it, that'd be great.

I would assume so. 30-30 is a fairly popular cowboy action weapon. but we all know what assume means..lol

as long as you use it behind a cast bullet, ive tried it in virtually every round i reload save 243 win with good to excellent results. 30-30, 30-06, 308, 38 spl, 357 mag and 45-70. it needs alot of case capcity because of its bulk and it doesnt cycle semi autos all that well.

Sounds like an interesting powder. I was going to get some SR4759 to play with again, but I'm going to try this instead.
