A ban on dozens of semiautomatic weapons, won Illinois House approval early Friday.
The ban is a top campaign promise of Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

The House voted 64-43 to outlaw .50-caliber guns and cartridges, not defining the term semiautomatic but listing specific types or brands of 20 pistols and five dozen rifles.

I also read every 11 to 40 round magazine and all drum magazines need to be registered with the State of Illinois for them to be legal. Firearm Owner Identification cards with be denied to anyone under the age of 21. (Is this information true?)

Congratulations Illinois. You are now have more draconian citizen gun laws over California.

I believe these terrible 2nd Amendment infringements will be challenged in the courts and over turned but it will likely take years. Stay out of Illinois if you like your 2nd Amendment liberties.

I read just yesterday that in order to get it passed in the Illinois house they dropped the age limit and raised the magazine capacity limit to 12.

Heh heh! The lord overseers are so generous. We will give you twelve rounds instead of ten. Why not seventeen like the tyrants in Delware gave their people? How about thirty-two round magazines? We know the lord overseers and their body guards are not going to be subject to these tyrant laws.

I believe the bill that passed the IL House would require anyone under 21 to have a parent or guardian who is eligible to have a FOID sponsor them, and then have to re-apply when they turn 21.

The magazine capacity rule for centerfire guns is 12 rounds for handguns and 10 for rifles, although as of this morning the Senate version increases the handgun capacity to 15 rounds.

For myself, the age requirement is a non-issue, but a 12 round capacity limit for handguns would be a pretty big problem when it comes to parts of the family collection, where the gun is no longer produced and I don't believe magazines that would comply were ever made. Hacking up a relatively rare, no longer produced magazine really isn't an option, and there are several guns in the collection that are unfired in their original packaging with their original magazines that would loose some value if I messed with the things. A 15 round limit would make most, but not all, of the problems go away. With my father passing away last October I have been moving some things to my home in IL, but it looks like some stuff might have to go back to WI.

The Official Policy of HPFF is to comply with all applicable laws and to recommend to other to do so as well.

Yes….and since the constitution is the law of the land, one should ABSOLUTELY follow that law.

The silly thing is, the mag restrictions are so obviously arbitrary and pointless. I can only have 10/12/15/27 rounds? But I can carry 12 mags if I want? Gee….THAT will stop a bad guy from doing bad things.🤣

Funny thing is, Springfield is in Illinois, and many of their guns hold more, including the Elite Tactical, with 22 or 19 round mags standard. But Springfield doesn’t seem to get into the politics, they just make a single stack, and sell more guns.🙄

Perhaps I was a bit too circumspect. The statement is part CYA and part recommendation to protect yourself.

First, the EOL's do sometimes monitor HPFF and the official legal requirements are that everyone has to follow the laws, even the ones we don't like, and no one advocates for breaking the laws. This keeps the EOL's from having to micro-manage (in theory), booting users, or just shutting down HPFF.

Second, there are all kinds of reasons why someone might want to be careful, for their own personal legal safety, about publicly advocating breaking laws. Anything posted here doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the EOL's and they're more than happy to let the FBI, LEO, or the Jan. 6 Commission have every last jot and tiddle of what you've posted here, never mind some agency just scraping through the public threads for evidence against you.

Now, if you want to make the case that some law is unconstitutional or has some other problems and should be changed or overturned in court, by all means, have at. But, if you want to advocate for what some politician might describe as "subversive" or what some law enforcement agency might use as evidence at your trial, don't do it online and don't do it on HPFF.

Actually, they are illegal to buy in Illinois but you can own them. Saturday night special law passed years ago. I bought a C9 when I lived in Iowa and checked before we moved back to S. Illinois to be close to the elderly parents. I carried all the flavors of the M-16 over 26 years so I've had my fill. None of my other firearms are affected. Something to be said for WW1 and WWII bolt actions. My Brother over in Indy has the Cold War stuff if I want to shoot it, he just can't bring it over here anymore. Luckily I live far, far away from the Windy City.

From Good Morning America

Illinois on Tuesday became the latest U.S. state to ban the sale or possession of semiautomatic weapons.

Just hours after the legislation's passage in both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the "Protect Illinois Communities Act" into law during a ceremony at the State Capitol in Springfield. Supporters, some of whom were gun violence survivors, erupted with applause and cheers as the governor presented the signed document.

"For a long time now, I and many other leaders in the Illinois General Assembly have prioritized getting the most dangerous weapons off our state's streets," Pritzker said in a statement Tuesday. "Today, honoring the commitment we made, we passed one of the strongest assault weapons bans in the nation, one I will be proud to sign."

Sure wish she and those other hypocrites were working on getting the most dangerous PEOPLE off the streets....

Most dangerous weapons, my behind. The most dangerous weapons in Ilinois are the handguns in the hands of criminals...who are now safer than they were before this stupid law was passed, while the law abiding people are less safe.

Idiots. They're either complicit, or stupid.

Don't forget how bail reform keeps them out of jail too.

Guy in NY got arrested for violating the restraining order his mom had against him by going to her house and threatening to kill her. Bail reform got him released on an appearance ticket (ROR), so he went straight back to her house and killed her. They only caught him because the cops got sent to her house for a welfare check after she vanished for a week. He was still there living it up.

A bunch of Illinois sheriffs are telling the tyrants to suck it, they won’t enforce the obviously unconstitutional laws.
The governor is threatening their jobs…which, since they’re elected, can really only mean some more unconstitutional activity by the tyrants….or a bunch of finger wagging and then sitting down and shutting up until the government starts playing the courtroom games trying to defend their anti American efforts.

Seems a lot of states doubling down on stupid as of late. I woulda thought Bruen was a big enough message. Guess the only winners in this is lawyers....
I had thought that after Bruen the States would rewrite their laws to where they thought would be juuuuust barely in compliance with what the thought they could possibly defend to the a friendly Judge. Instead they went completely the other way and wrote laws much more restrictive and such that even somewhat friendly Judges are sometimes ruling against them. The gun prohibitionist states' responses have been frequently compared to certain states responses to Brown v. Board of Education.

Peace favor your sword,
Kirk

I saw a pic on another site showing the many counties that the Sheriffs' will not enforce. I didn't do a count, but visually it looks to be a majority of them. I see that as a good thing. But manufacturers will comply and I'd bet most FFL's will as well.
