just to be clear, I don’t have trouble picking up the dot, I just see a slash rather than a dot.
If the dot doesn't look like a dot, that's called "trouble picking up the dot".

Actually I see it well. Which is why I say I have no trouble picking up the dot. The circle dot on my 300 BLK I see well and it looks like a dot, but it is not a projected dot, it is etched on the lens.

Don’t think I have ever looked at a true red dot larger than 2 or 3 moa. I am wondering how the 6 moa dot would look to me?

For the price you can't beat it for a full size/compact rmr rds.

Holosun 407 or 507 - depending on model but they have quite a few.
Personally I have the 507k and a 507k-x2, one for a compact and one for a micro, or in other words RMR footprint or Rmsc footprint.

No...he can pick the dot up...it just isn't a DOT. I have the same issue, astigmatism makes the dot flare to one side or the other.
So I can pick up the glowing aiming indicator just fine. It's just not a nice clean sharp dot, instead it's a small smear of light.

I have an astigmatism too, and I can pick up the dot just fine. Would it help y'all if we went with "out" instead? Y'all can't pick out the dot?

No...I can pick it out...but it's just a fuzzy dot. Still functions exactly like a dot though.

Not picking up the dot means I see NO glowing aiming point or circle or chevron. Not a rifle issue, I only have that issue with pistols if they don't point in my hands. Pick it up, and see no dot, nothing but empty glass. Twist the wrist around trying to find the dot....it sucks.

Different meaning for me. If I'm not picking up something, it means I'm not seeing what I'm supposed to see. If I'm supposed to see a dot, but all I see is a slash, I'm picking up a slash and I'm not picking up a dot. If all I see is nothing, then I'm not picking up anything.

So there are 3 pistols that I CC, depending on my needs at the time.
  • Remington R51
  • Kel Tec P11
  • Taurus TCP 738

I haven't yet found a single stack 9 that I like better than the R51 so I have no plans on changing that. I don't care what your R51 does; mine is reliable, soft shooting, has a good trigger, and points very naturally. I may upgrade it eventually because it is unclear right now if the new Remington will continue to support it, but for now, it's staying put.

The P11 and TCP, however, are on the upgrade chopping block. Both have served me well but both are now discontinued firearms. Taurus discontinued the TCP in 2017, replacing it with the SPECTRUM. Kel Tec discontinued the P11 in 2019, replacing it with... nothing. Both the P11 and TCP have their shortcomings, notably long, heavy triggers, and sights that desperately need upgrading. I upgraded the P11 sights to fiber optics a lighter, and upgraded to a smoother trigger but it's still super long. Nothing to do about the TCP; the sights are milled in (and terrible) and I don't recall ever seeing a trigger spring kit for it.

The P11 replacement needs to be something is the same size with comparable capacity. But my 50-something-year-old eyes are telling me that a red dot should be my next pistol sighting system for the primary. So if there's not a RD option, it's out of the running. There are a ton of options right now, and more coming out but the strongest competitors for my needs seem to be the Hellcat and the MAX-9 but the price tag on the RD ready Hellcat puts the Ruger in the lead. I keep hearing good things about the Shield Plus but the dot version significantly grows the form factor and is much more expensive. I keep hearing good things about the Taurus GX4 so maybe if they come out with a TORO version? SCCY claims they're shipping the DVG-1RD but I have yet to see any customer reviews (all of which I take with a grain of salt anyway).

I really haven't looked hard at replacing the TCP. I kinda looked at the SPECTRUM because I like the looks of it and it's the official Taurus replacement but I couldn't talk myself past basically the exact same sights and trigger. I thought about the Ruger LCP II, which has a better trigger but that's pretty much all. Just couldn't bite on it; not really enough improvement. But the new Ruger LCP MAX has significantly better sights, a better trigger than the TCP (and the SPECTRUM), and an astonishing 12 round capacity. That's basically the same thing as the CZ 83 in the same size package as the TCP. Yes, the grip on the MAX is about 1/4" longer and 1/8-1/4" wider. Still a pocket gun and will carry in exactly the same pockets as the TCP.

So right now it looks like I may become a Ruger fanboi, and swap the P11 for a MAX-9 with a red dot and swap the TCP for the LCP MAX.

I'm just kinda thinking out loud here, really. And I likely won't move on anything for another 6 months or more. But, hey, here's where you comment and tell me why I'm right or why I'm wrong. :)

Kirk
Could look into the Taurus G2c, that’s my t-shirt and shorts CCP. Granted it’s a double stack, but it’s pretty easy to conceal. Haven’t had any problems out of mine, after 2k+ rounds. Only upgrade i did to mine, was put a stainless steel guide rod in it, but it wasn’t that much. Lakeline, LLC has them, new springs and all for $23.00.

I ended up with the Mossberg MC2sc and, based on my desires and other people's knowledgeable advice, put the Sig romeo red dot on it. I carry it OWB in the branded kydex holster sold off of the Mossberg website with a single extended-mag reload in a kydex made for the S&W 59/Kel Tec P11 (which fits well).

I still have not replaced the Taurus TCP though that is still in my mind. I'm still leaning toward the Ruger LCP MAX but I think I'm going to have to upgrade all of my blue jeans to different pockets. The TCP is snug in the current brand I use (Rural King) and I think the extra 1/4" would make to too snug to use at all.

I've also been seriously thinking about a .38 snubbie instead but I think the LCP MAX has it all going on over a snubbie, no matter how Sam Spade classic it is. :(

my wife was thinking about getting one of the MC2, she just hasn’t made up her mind yet. The lcp max is supposed to be pretty good, but I haven’t had a chance to get a up close look at one. Hell, the last .380 i had was a Lorcin i got back in the late ‘80s.

The MC2sc is the double-stack competitor to the Kel Tec P11 --> Sig P365 et. all stuff. I've been very happy with it so far.

I also bought the Taurus GX4 TORO for my boy. It's pretty much the Taurus version of the Kel Tec P11 --> Sig P365 et. all, optics read. I'm surprised with how good the GX4 actually is.

I've heard rumor of horror stories about the LCP MAX but I'm guessing they got those problems worked out by now.

So the cycle is complete. I bought the Mossberg MC2sc optics ready and the Sig Romeo Zero RDS to replace the Kel Tec P11 and the Ruger LCP MAX to replace the Taurus TCP 738.

Well, there you go. Now that Armscor revolver will fill the wheel gun niche, and all you need is a 17-20 round duty gun, and you are ready for the mall. 👍

Are we sure he's Segway certified?

Well, I've got a couple of wheelies including a Ruger Security Six 357. But it's got a 4" bbl and I always wanted something I could cosplay Sam Spade with.

I'm working on it. I just have to overcome my cheapscate gene.

The hardest part is finding a plate carrier that matches my segway's paint job.

Kirk, Had to chime in on this one. I have had a chance to glance through and one option I did not see listed was the new
Mossberg MC1SC. I really love the trigger and it does point fairly well, least to me. Do yourself a favor and go fondle one of those if/when you get a chance. I guess the only issue with that is no red dot... the Mossberg is surprisingly in the conversation even though they are new to the game when it comes to pistols.
Sadly, Mossberg has already discontinued their Glock magazine compatible pistol and moved to a proprietary magazine on their new pistols. But some of the new models come optic ready.

'nuther reason to not buy one. I wonder how their sales were? The 9mm market is flooded with plenty of great micro offerings.
