Weatherby Vanguard

A co-worker need to sell a NIB Weatherby Vanguard in .308. I gave $350 for the rifle. I need to add bases, rings and a scope. I think I got a fair deal. I believe that Vanguards are made by Howa in Japan. Does anyone have any experience with these rifles? I plan to put a 4-12 or 5-15 scope on the rifle. I'll post a photo after I put the scope etc on the rifle.

I have owned Vanguards in 270 and 223.They're really good bolt action rifles at a good price..
excellent rifle. they sold new for around 700$ IIRC. 350 with no glass is a pretty good price. what caliber?

.308, I found a set of Burris bases and rings, next I think I'll put a Bushnell 3200 5-15 or a Burris 4.5-14 scope.

im preferential to simmons glass myself, but use whatever fits you the best.

I've got the Burris and the Bushnell in my safe along with a Bushie 3200 3-9. This may become a project rifle like a 10/22. I've been looking at a Boyd's thumbhole stock and a bipod to start with and maybe in the future porting the barrel or cutting it down to 22 or 20 inches. The Synthetic stock on the rifle is pretty comfortable, but not as nice as a good thumbhole for accurate shooting. The main reason I bought the rifle was for some thing in 308 to modify. I didn't want to make any major changes to my Remington 700 VTR.
