This past weekend was a rough one for me... apparently I had 2 heart attacks and ignored them both. Saturday afternoon and Sunday Night. The one Sunday night actually brought me to me knees so what do I do... I shake it off and go to sleep...

I went to the emergency room Monday morning after the pain did not subside. The 2nd was fairly massive and the docs are kinda surprised my heart is holding up. Whatever enzyme in your blood work that is heart related is supposed to be 15, my reading was 10,500 ish. Had (3) Stents put in and one wall is rather weak, but all in all my doc thinks I will recover nicely.

Note to self: Don't suck it up when it comes to chest pain...

I get to go home tomorrow (for now), thank god because I hate wearing these damn robes!!!

Take care of yourself. I had a PE a while back. I put if off and nearly paid the ultimate price for it according to the doctors. I learned to not be so stubborn.

Get well.

Get well Visper, and follow what the docs tell you. Diet I think may now be critical for you.
You have a lot of guns yet to enjoy!
Yup, definitely will, but running out of stuff I can eat lol. I was diagnosed with diabetes a little over a year ago. Lost 80 lbs in 6 months on Keto and now have had my best blood work since I was 35... then this comes.

What I'm thinking is these heart attacks were from the abuse I gave my body before changing everything up, because if I gave up what food I could eat with diabetes and with heart disease it would basically leave me with chicken and water...

Going to stay with Keto just introduce more chicken into it!!! And take my meds!!!

Funny thing is I think diabetes kinda saved my life. Without that diagnosis I wouldn't have lost the weight and got into game shape again and most likely would have died from that series of heart attacks.

Weird how shit happens isn't it??

DON'T IGNORE THE WARNINGS!!!

Saw my 75yr old cousin in NC this past weekend. He's had a heart attack, quadruple bypass, an aneurysm, they've removed part of his intestines, his gall bladder, one of his kidneys...and part of his left leg!!! Last time I saw him was in 2005 and was in fine health from what I could tell. He worked at the papermill in Roanoke Rapids and smoked a lot. Not sure which one (or both) did him in but the doctors told him there's no more they can do, no more operations they can perform. It's a crying shame and hurts to see him in this condition. Got a Harley he can't ride, a bass boat he can't use, and a truck he had to give to his daughter cause he can't drive. Just lays around all day waiting for someone to change his colostomy bag and feed him his pills and has to use a wheelchair unless he puts his prosthetic leg on so he can have limited use of a walker. This guy was the wildcat of the family, always on the go, not anymore. He did manage to get into my Mini so we could go around town and see the old sights and a couple of my other cousins. Makes me want to walk 5 miles a day instead of the 2 I'm doing now. I'm not saying it could have been avoided, but...Oh hell yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying!!!

Well, Visper, it sounds like you got really lucky, and I'm glad to hear that you are on a path to enjoying some more good years. You've always struck me as a pretty resilient and proactive kind of individual, so your practices will most likely result in you still doing the activities you did before. That is the truly good news, and I hope you do keep moving as you have in the years to come.

Glad you're still with us. I pulled a similar stunt a while back - ignoring chest pain. Not smart. Listen to the cardio docs.A few are idiots, but most know what they're talking about. Chicken isn't bad. And there's fish, especially salmon, if the diabetes allows that. Oh, and don't leave any guns to Moonz in your will - he'll just paint them green.

WooHoo!!! I'm getting discharged today. Cardio Rehab here I come!!

No idea how long I am out of work for though... worse part is I was so busy last year I carried over 3 weeks of vacation. So short term disability kicks in after you use your accrued vacation time...

Eh, prolly wouldn't have been able to use it all anyways...

Just happy to go home.

And you're right, get it checked, don't "tough it out."

Peace favor our sword,

It's amazing how good it feels to be set free after one of those. Every time I started to get back in to shape and really work on eating diabetic friendly, I had another MI. I'm thinking it's because I was still smoking. Still say that's what the cause was behind my kidneys shutting down and sending me in to an acute total renal failure tailspin last May too.

Damn diet was high lean protein, low sodium, low carb, low sugar, low fat, and no caffeine. Chicken, salad, and water basically. Even the fruits and vegetables had to be monitored for sugar/carbs. The cool part was my cardiologist, endocrinologist, and dietician couldn't 100% deny me my red meat, as long as it was wild game. Being a hunter, I had a freezer full of it. As long as I wasn't making sausage with it, they didn't care, as long as I maintained portion control.

Why I like my grass fed beef, it is a lean meat with a lot of the good fats.

Well, in the same boat... I was on Keto for my diabetes. How I lost 80 lbs. All my Blood work went from horrible to excellent including cholesterol etc. (which was more me actually taking my pills all the time...)

So originally the doc was like - well Keto is high proteins/fat diet so you really should not continue that but after looking at my last 4 sets of bloodwork (every 4 months since diabetes diagnosis) he said all my numbers have been excellent. So he said OK you can stay on it just watch the fats within reason, aka switch out a steak for chicken or fish a little more often. Switch to turkey bacon etc. That I can do!! As long as my numbers stay nominal I can keep that up.

Cardiac Doc said these heart attacks were most likely a combination of genetics (runs in family both sides) and the abuse I put my body through for the first 50 years before changing everything for diabetes. So I can keep Keto - tentative with mods, for now.

Thank god, just got use to eating like that!!!

If I actually did what was textbook. everything I could eat that is good for diabetes is bad for heart and everything I can eat for heart is bad for diabetes... that would leave me with chicken and water!!! lol

As long as I keep my meds up, exercise and actually balance my high proteins/fat diet a little better I should be good to go.
