What did you do in the reloading room today?

I saw this (and participate in this) on other forums and was wondering if it would work here.

Today I tumbled 200 primed 9mm cases. Yes I have heard the warnings but my tumbler didn't blow up and my cases are clean.

I saw where Mr. Lemi-shine said he's more concerned about scuffs than shine, sounds like a decent compromise (y)
That's on the 5.7x28. Those cases have a coating on them that you don't want to remove. It assists with both loading and extraction. So scuffing the brass scuffs the coating which can impact the function. That's bad.

With any other brass, that doesn't matter. Clean matters. I like the shiny, which is why I wet tumble now, but clean and smooth is what's important.

I use the dual canister rock tumbler from Harbor Freight too. Works well.

I was BB’s too. At least sometimes. I normally use walnut and jewelers rough. Makes ‘em real shiny and purdy.

I am curious. I have had BB’s stuck in primer pockets, but never in case mouths. ???
It only happens with .223. What will sometimes happen is that BBs will fill into the case, then will wedge against each other in the case mouth instead of just pouring out. It's kinda weird. Usually I can just knock the case against my hand or another and they'll loosen up. But sometimes I need to get in there with an awl or something.

.177 bb stuck in a .223 case mouth... must be a pair wedged into the taper? 🤔
Something like that, yeah.

PS: Do you have a rough estimate of how many 223 the HF tumbler dual holds? 9mm?
About 25 or 30 per drum.

So 25-30 .223 cases.
How many 9mm? Close to 100?

25+ sounds decent, and it's a reasonably priced unit.

Depends on how many BB's, of course. I usually put in about 50 or 60.

Really, just experiment. It won't hurt any to have too few and if you pack it too full the worst that happens is the brass doesn't get clean.

Besides, you can polish some pretty rocks.

I'm actually thinking I might pick one up. I'm playing the game of, "If they have one in stock when I go to town, then it's meant to be."

Exactly
I almost did that on a whim last time I looked. But then thought maybe it's not good for brass, or something stupid like that.

Moved my bench to the basement. I used to have the 2nd house all to myself. Well, myself and the ghosts. But the oldest daughter has claimed the upstairs and SWMBO has been here since the first of the year. A loading bench in the bedroom and den just doesn't cut it anymore.
I do not like going down in the basement too much. (See above: "myself and the ghosts"). I will go and do the laundry, but only in the daylight, and only for a few minutes. I much prefer going to the laundrymat. I will see how it works, the Lee stand may - probably likely will - come back to the den. There has been less weird stuff going on since the house is full now, but stuff still happens.

Any ideas for a "quiet lever gun load" 20" Rossi in 38spc??

I shot a good bit of 38 Blazer Brass, still too noisy and needed ear pro.

I would be careful with mouse fart loads in a rifle. More than one has been known to stick in a barrel. Not saying they will not stick in a revolver, but add 16 or more inches and you can see the problem.

BTW, mail inbound.

I personally don't. But check the reloading data on cowboy action loads?

Built 50 rounds of 5.7x28 last night. 40gr. V-Max. Such a persnickety cartridge that I spent over half an hour making sure that the dispenser was throwing the correct charge. Used a Lee scale checked by a Redding scale. Having ladder tested, I chose a charge right in the middle at 6.4 of #7 (published load) so even if it did throw 0.1 of a grain over, with a top of 6.8, it would still be safe. Checked the charge weight 3 times and visually verified.

Things go well, I'll shoot them this weekend or next.

Dude....if you weighed all 50 rounds individually, you'd have spent less time. 🤣

What "dispenser" are you using, and is it on the press? I have the Lee Perfect Powder for off press, and the Auto Drum for on the press.

If I get critical, using the Perfect unit, I just drop the powder into a Lyman Powder Pal funnel after setting the funnel as the tare weight, weigh it after filling, trickle if required, and then drop it into the case.
For on the press use, I put the primed case on the scale as tare, put it on the press, drop, and weigh the charge. Trickle if needed.

For those of you that use them, where do you get the stainless steel pins that you tumble your brass with?
