Anyone not familiar with you, might look at this really quickly and think you are simply kitting out and buying all the parts dor a new AR (or two!) because they gave you a "free" pistol grip 😹

We know you already had plans...

It just got an LOL outta me :D
Yeah well, if you throw in the M5 upper, UPK, adjustable block, and gas tube I just ordered...

I'm $725 in to this new .308 and still need the lower, LPK, trigger pack, BCG, and CH.

Then there's the scope. This won't be a 1k rifle like the 24" so no hubble required this time.

Knowing your ocd on this, how badly does the 4" shorter barrel affect the .308 velocity? It must be acceptable for your intended use. My ocd dictates "max effective velocity" but my smaller stature calls for a 16" version.
I have not built an x51 yet. Hope to someday.

By the time you add a lower, LPK, trigger, BCG, and CH....it will be a $1000 rifle. ;)
That's partly why I just bought the Ruger for $1100.

Seriously. Check out the SFAR. Your smaller stature will thank you, even if you get the 20" version.

4"?!' Try 8".

I put the 24" fluted HBAR on the first one.

This is a 16" Big Gunner from Faxon. 39oz compared to the 82oz of the 24" from Ballistic Advantage

Between the two I should only see a loss of around 200fps.

Maybe. Most likely. Forgot to mention needing a handguard. Mebbe eleben fiddy...

You're absolutely right though. Until you consider the actual rifle from Aero runs $1500-$1600 with basic ass $100 magpul furniture, a $25 fixed gas block, and a $20 A2 birdcage. Compared to the $240 MBA-3 stock, $90 Odin Works adjustable block, and $55 KVP linear comp. I think I'm a little bit ahead of the curve in the cost effective nature of a stock rifle compared to a customized a rifle, especially if you're the guy who buys it off the shelf THEN decides to modify it. The fool and his money types.

Can't dog Aero on barrels though, because they do own the majority share of Ballistic Advantage.

The final bonus that makes it priceless is building them with the boy and passing on that skill and knowledge. He'll never get to do what I can do, seeing as how the Corps has removed the scout sniper MOS and school from their ranks, but I can still show him what I know.

Absolutely. Nothing wrong with a solid $1200 "built the way you want it done" rifle, especially when it's something the kid enjoys, learns from, and remembers you by. That's priceless.

Exactly. And for about the same price we each get the rifle we wanted. Speaking of; the CH, BCG, LPK, and handguard means I'm looking at like 13. Lower and a trigger to go.

It's funny though because he works with a few of my friends and they tell stories about what they've seen Bob do, so he's still trying to balance that out with the laid back guy he calls dad.

I think its a blast building your own, I think I've mentioned a few times I like to tinker... lol

But yeah, a few AKs, a few ARs, a few "glocks" and a few "sigs". Each presented their own challenge. Would still like to try my hand at 1911 80%... we shall see, why I used the P320 as a stepping stone, the mup was way harder than any 80% frame I had done.

especially if you're the guy who buys it off the shelf THEN decides to modify it. The fool and his money types.
I agree totally. Now I will say that some items like AKs, which are a PITA to build even IF you "kinda" know what you are doing. So I have bought stock ones and "upgraded" them to my wants/needs.

Also, I have tweaked a sig or two lol, that were stock.

Specifically, the P365X I basically turned into a Macro. I could have bought a Macro for about the same price, maybe cheaper if you count the mags, but it is assembled from parts that aren't Sig, I like it, but yes the "fool and his money" did cross my mind.

Main reason I almost always, if available, get any new pistol with a threaded barrel. Would rather have and not need rather than need and not have.

Anyway, Rach, enjoy that time with your son building - I have 3 daughters - one couldn't care less, one actually owns a few firearms but she likes the range, not the "building" lol.

My third and youngest will come watch, ask questions, and help here and there. She hates shooting lol, but likes the "mechanical" part of it. I kept telling her she should go to college for engineering... she is leaning business... starts in the fall.

Well I couldn't help myself. Picked up a 3.5lb CMC-SS curved trigger w/ anti-walk pins. I'll either be buying or ordering the lower this weekend. Then the great hurry up and wait begins.

Rach, you want a real challenge? Get an 80% 308 lower!!

I have one of those weld together flatspot lower kits sitting out in the shop somewhere, but only a cheap ass stick welder.

I've milled two 80% AR15 lowers. One poly, one aluminum. Both on a drill press with a cross slide vise.

I neglected to say I was considering 20"

200fps ain't bad at all!

@ajole $1329 msrp, .5# weight diff for the 16" and the 20" only weighs 7.3# unloaded (y)

Plus it's a Ruger (y)

See gives you a reason to get a better welder!!!

Drill press/cross slide is so 2020!!! You need the one from 5D tactical, works with a router you can get drom harbor freight for $50~

I can do a receiver in about an hour total, and that is taking my time and it is PERFECT. PM me if you are even entertaining the idea.

Stripped Aero's are like $170 for dpms, you can get an 80% for $130. Yeah not saving money but talk about bonding!!! lol

2017, and I have 2 routers, several milling bits, 3 jigs, and 45 to an hour is decent time. I milled MINE on the press and vice. Several folks over the years have requested to borrow my calipers to double check their work though.

Ordered a few ambi, wide CH for the scoped AR’s, a couple of cheap slings, and a couple of “mag holder/angled fore grips” for the Recover Tactical pistol brace. It fits on a rail, so I’m wondering how it will work on a 9 mm AR of various lengths. At $8 a pop, I figured why not.

I just bought 5 SGM mags for my Vepr for a pretty sweet price off GB. Picked them up to get me by until Csspecs starts production again. I also bought a few hundred rounds of different, good .308 to try in my S&W M&P 10 to see what shoots best. Now that it's warming up, I want to see how tight I can get it shooting.

My 3 Torkmags came in. Broke one using the Caldwell loader, just cracked lengthwise at the rear corner of the lips. Loaded the other two by hand, got 35 rounds in, no bulging….yet.

I'd be emailing them pics of the broken one.

I understand polymer mags and all but it's not like it years old...

They do hold what it states and they actually feed nice, crossing my fingers on the 7.62x39.

I tried putting x39 in…that’s a negative IMHO.

Well, dang... they load and not feed? Haven't even played around with it yet so curious.
