Nobody is sure what the J stands for? And we think the H in JHP us for Haskell. The C in JCP is for Cole, & the S in JS is for Stallard. These are names of the 3 former owners before Hi Point. This is all subject to debate?
"P" stands for polymer.
I did a search on the JCP, and I found "Joint Combat Pistol", and it got a few laughs here, so I guess that's not it.
JCP = J. C. Penny - The .40 was originally made as a promotional item for the major retail chain.
JHP = Because JCP was already taken.
I hear tell that the creator of the Hi-Point was a bit anti-Semitic and the "J" stands for Hi-Points low price point.
