Toss in some fish and leave it!

Got seeds planted in starter trays for the garden. 36 tomato plants, 36 pepper plants of various types including 8 Carolina Reaper that will go in pots and into my bay window this fall. Dozen Jalapeno, 8 sweet peppers, 8 serrano...

Washed fermenters, pulled the irrigation tubes back from 1/4 of the garden. Still have snow over one end so it will be 2-3 more days before I get the rest out. Need to flip it end for end to move stuff around...

Setup the brew rig then got interrupted... friends power wheelchair went down and the part came today so I spent 2 hours getting that in and reassembled everything. His wife needs it to get around and it had been a week with her stuck n bed or being pushed in a regular wheelchair...

Cleaned and lubed both fishing reels, inspected the rods, had to order a replacement for my 35 year old Ugly Stick... tip guide is screwed up again and i have replaced it 4 times, tip is getting weak and mushy from fighting carp... also the graphite layer is de-laminating down towards the reel so time for a new rod.

This was a medium and several 20+ pound carp have taken a toll on it. Along with a half dozen catfish over 20 pounds.

Ordered an Ugly Stick GX2 7' to replace it. Give me a little more casting range with the longer rod. 2 piece for easy transport inside the truck cab. Another medium also. I debated going heavy but 90% of the fish I catch are under 10 pounds...

Need to get to the river and get a half dozen 3-5 pound carp to brine and smoke, plus hit a local prairie pothole lake for a bucket of spring bullheads, this is the only time of year they are edible.

Catfish here is a bog 1/0 hook with an 8" creek chub for bait and about 2-3 ounces of lead 24 inches up the line. Cast it out, put it in the river bank rod holder and kick back in the lawn chair and have a couple beers while waiting. Listen to something on the radio... also done after 9pm and often we sit out until 3AM or later...

Tackle for fresh water depends on species and fishing mode.. trolling requires its own set of lures/rigs, bank fishing can be bottom or bobber fishing and as simple as a slip bobber, split shot, and a hook sized for the fish...

Trolling here means walleye or northern pike, I tie my own spinner rigs for that.

Good Luck!

Relocated my mailbox until they are done with construction next year... screwed a sawhorse to a pallet then screwed the mailbox mounting board in between the legs. Blocked up the pallet until the bottom of the box was at 35 inched and called it good. Has to last a little over a year is all. Debating having the welding shop make a new pivot from steel instead of the wood I have to replace every 5-6 years because it wears out from the box getting pushed up out of the V by the snowplow. Right now I take a 12 inch long 4x4, cut a V section out. Bottom section screws to the post, top section screws to the bottom of the mailbox mounting board. Lag bolt down the center to hold it together with 2 big washers and a spring to tension it. Lag bolt was bent about an inch from the snowplow slamming the box...

Checked over the garden, 2 of my rhubarb plants survived the winter, 1 hasn't come up yet or is dead. Strawberries are coming up, chives are up and 6" long... pulled more irrigation tubing out of the garden so I can flip it 180 degrees to move the wide tomato rows to the other end.

Recycling day tomorrow so set out more of the accumulation from this winter. All winter it was either 30+ mph winds recycling day or snowing... so it piled up a wee bit.

Did more work in the garden too. And got my new rod in, now I need a new reel for it. Decided to replace the 40 year old Johnson Century reel.

Sorry to hear Rachgier  but look at it this way. More time to hunt and fish!

Ordered a Daiwa Regal Airbail RG3000H-AB reel to go with the new rod. See how the drag holds up to carp and big catfish! I only use 10 pound test(like the challenge) so the drag is going to take abuse!

Had barley come in today so took care of repackaging that into 5 gallon buckets with gamma seal lids. Filtering water for a batch of beer(takes 9 hours). Flattened cardboard for recycling... mostly just house chores today. Rained last night so garden was to wet to work in. The rhubarb I thought died over winter is coming up today and looks a lot healthier than it did last year. So that makes 3 rhubarb plants. I might start 3 more so I have enough in the freezer to last a year. Make rhubarb sauce that then gets made into a milkshake!

Got the new reel in so I spooled it up and put it on the 7' ugly stick. Then did some practice casts in the yard... ugh I haven't used a spinning reel in 40 years!

Cleaned out the tackle box, found a 12 year old spool of Spiderwire line. Figured it would be rotten... nope holds more than test weight still and I can't snap it by hand. So spooled up the spare casting reel on the light Ugly Stick I used for walleye trolling. Going to use leftover line to ti up some walleye spinner rigs to sell for $1.25 each. Have a lot of components to use up so might as well try to make a few bucks!
