    :p
OK, now that I have 100 people fixing to ask this next question, I will answer it :D
    In Advance!
What I want this for is a double duty setup.

    PRIMARY:
I am considering a long barrel for AR #1, prolly a 24" 'varmint barrel' but maybe lightweight barrel because I do not expect to blast hundreds of shots. Just longer for the added range, accuracy and velocity. But that is not the point, just what I am dealing with.

    SECONDARY:
Can be transplanted to a conventional stocked hunting rifle or maybe even our favorite PCC family units :D I do not want to buy a dozen bipods for everything, just something that is good all around.

    SPECS DESIRED:
    1. Cost: Under $100, preferably under $65
    2. Light Weight:
    3. Durable: (of course)
    4. Rugged: woods, mountains, rocks, etc.

    OK, "School Me" :D

I know someone will jump off the handle about this, but, my theory on a bipod is, its 2 sticks to give some support. Nothing more. A $39 pair of metal sticks from China on EBay in my eyes will do the same job as a $300 set of metal sticks with some fancy tactical brand name sticker slapped on them.

You don't want plastic, but a basic aluminum set does the job, and I truly can't see how paying two, three, five times more can make it much better.
Mine was $39 on eBay, side by side to the $249 one at my LGS you can't tell them apart other than mines more dark gray than black.

The best bipod is a free bipod. I found the UTG bipod in the closet of disappearing ammo. (So named as I forgot I put a bunch of ammo in it and was pleasantly surprised when I found it.) I have only used it a few times on the TZBB but it added too much weight for my purpose. If you want it just let me know it is free. Please see attached photo, feet not included.

No extra charge for being used on the Tactical Zombie Bunny Blaster?
I'll Take It! PM sent ;)

I don't think weight will be a big issue on the setup I am looking at...
I was just thinking if I am going to lay out the bucks I need to get the
    best overall value.

Got one on my Savage .308 and works very well , had a Caldwell look alike . The Calwell eventually broke from the recoil . All my rifles will have a Harris bipod from now on

OK, Making some updates to this post, I have decided to analyze my barrel choices also. Thinking about the differences between 20 and 24. I know the 20" will be lighter and easier to move and carry, obviously. But will I miss the range advantages of the 24" barrel? I have not found the exact info I need to decide on the barrel(s)...

I'm also thinking that I may want a long range hunting barrel in a 1:7, 20" but the 24" in a slower 1:9 for varminting and lighter boolits... Heavier boolits for the 20" I believe a 24" with the 1:7 twist would be "the Ultimate" but I'm not sure of the other factors.

I guess my overall desire is to get a long range hunter setup first,
"varmit" barrel would just be a bonus, I can always add that later.

Damn the post office was fast for once. Like I said I wasn't using it and it was taking up space that could be used for ammo. Enjoy.
