....and why arent they out supporting the rights of the open carry people that are in the news for the last few days? oh wait i forgot, the NRA only backs politically acceptable gun owners. i have not heard ONE IOTA of ANYTHING from the nra on the open carry at these events. even thier website has no mention of it. So for all you who support the NRA, why arent you jumping all over them, kicking and screaming about thier lack of action. here is a GOLDEN opportunity to gain ground with a LARGE voting block and as usual the NRA is pissing it away because it might upset some fudd. Shame on those who support the NRA and its lacksadaisical attitude about rights at this critical time in history.

then again maybe you are the same bunch who think no one should be carrying weapons at these events because "it looks bad".....

i totally agree and i was thinking along the same lines. they should have been all over the guy with the AR15 out there, he would have been a poster child for the NRA. i dont' belong anymore just due to their politics, that is why i never became a lifetime member, i new they would change, with the political flow, as per usual.....my lab just farted...gross!

I would have to agree with SW. I'm hoping to maybe see some coverage of the issue in the next American Rifleman, but I'm beginning to think that the NRA is more about "we damn well better be able to shoot clays and hunt deer" than "we damn well better be able to keep the government in check by our peaceful ownership of guns".

My membership runs out in November... time to start looking into GOA.

You raise an excellent point SW i think its time to reconsider being a "proud" member of the NRA. It saddens me I guess I believe good PR as much as the next guy but you're right this event has lifted my blinders, they should be saying "These are examples of good responsible citizens exercising the right we fight so hard to defend" and yet as you say...silence. I will send a letter to them tomorrow for its late now and I want my thoughts sharp. I too am going to think seriously of the GOA when I get recovered from being laid off.

I'm an NRA member, and my certification to teach the OH CCW course is from the NRA as well. However, I'm not really all that impressed with the NRA. The tactics they use and their policies on what they'll support are frustrating. It's just that there's no real alternative and they do keep some politicians in check.

What I most despise is their tendency to over-exaggerate and prey on stereotypes instead of sound logic.

For instance it seems like every time they call for money the script sounds like this:

"Did you know that Barack Hussein-Mohammed-Abdullah Obama and Nancy Pelosi are organizing squads of UN soldiers in black helicopters to kick your door down, confiscate and destroy all your guns, and rape your dog? But if you donate $100 to the NRA today, not only will you prevent all that but we guarantee your car will get better gas mileage AND you'll have a bigger penis by morning!"

I'm thankful that they exist but they're far from perfect. If they'd just assume that the average member is a bit more intelligent than they currently give us credit for, we'd be further along. People think we're ignorant ******** because the 800 pound gorilla in the firearms industry thinks that of us too.

Wow, you must've upgraded to super-duper defender of liberty so american I crap red white and blue membership package...i could go for some of that penile enlargement...though just slipping a pistol by the nightstand does that too :tongue2:

The NRA to me has turned into a profit first organization to me recently, just my observation.

The NRA is doing what they always do - lobbying for money, just like politicans, except they have little power and can't make laws.

I support the NRA inasmuch as they provide excellent training programs, and many times they fund and keep them up.
I DO NOT support their political agenda, considering that the only gun rights issues that they choose to pursue are those that will help out the Republican candidate that they are supporting at that moment.

since I'm also a union member because I believe in the principles of collective bargaining, but I despise their political stance.

therefore, I break even.....
