will the hi-points fire when dropped?

Though I have no personal experience to verify it, the Hi-Point was designed specifically to NOT fire if dropped. That additional safety may even be described in the owners' manual.

I dropped my C9 once. It slide right out of the top of my grandpas Gunsafe. It fell probably 5 or 6 feet to the concrete in the garage. It was loaded and cocked, but it had the saftey on. It hit hard too. I felt the impact through my feet. It had a small scuff and a ding but other than that it didnt go off.

Others may have different stories but there is mine.

I found this in the 9mm owners' manual (I'm sure it applies to all Hi-Point designs) describing features of the pistol:
"Passive Internal Drop Safeties -
Sear block - a spring loaded plate that falls under the sear pin when pistol is dropped on its rear.
Counter weight - a weight that counter acts sear movement when pistol is dropped on its handle."

I feel very safe with my C9 and JHP.

I am new to Hi-Point, I just purchased both the C9 and JHP and fired them today at my local range. It felt great to handle a weapon again. I haven't done so since retiring from the US Army in 2001. (medic) I got a brand new FL CCW and feel like I'm back in the game again. I was very impressed with the JHP, very small kick for a .45 cal. And the C9 fits beautifully in my Invisible Carry holster...this is gonna be fun. Thanks for the welcome; learning alot by reading this forum. Unfortunately, down at my range they sell the HP's but would rather sell you the Kimbers and Glocks. They don't bad mouth, but look disappointed when you show interest in the HP's. So what...great guns. I was ready to shell $550 for the used Glock till my boss steered me to HP...and I'm grateful.

Yeah most dealers would rather make the axtra hundred or two off of the higher named brand firearms. Sad but true. Glad you found the hi point brand.

I found out about Hi-Points through a friend that was telling me about a 9mm (C-9) he bought in a Pawn Shop for $150 and it looked new and was still in the box. I thought it must be a real pieace of crap for that price! He told me the manufacture and I looked them up "Googling" and found this Forum. I had never heard of them before and did some homework. I had been out of the game as well, and had not kept up with gun manufactures and trends. I now have all the Hi-Point pistols and the 9mm carbine (highly recommended w/ATI stock) I go to the range with them twice a month and shoot many "Paper Zombies".

The sear block prevents the HP from firing if dropped. Think you already saw it though. The forum is great! I'm on almost every day reading and looking at pics. It cuts down on getting work done, but small price to pay!

I have accidentally droppd mine while it was loaded no bang. BUT remember it's a mechanical device and is not fool proof. Don't make it a habit to drop it!!!

This thread was great had the ffl dealer that I sent my hp 380 to told me to use it as a door stop and buy a “real” gun for that very reason(not drop safe) I have 6 kids so I don’t have $500 to drop on a gun but feel more confident about carrying my hp now thanks gun fam …. Side note this is my first pistol so any advice or tips are greatly appreciated

I'm sure they figured it out in the 13+ years since the story aired.

HP's also have a drop safety, so there's that too...

Personally Ive not seen official reports on dropping dischargs on HP pistols.
I searched Realibility a lot last few months b4 purchasing the ole jc40
