I recently bought a hipoint .45 acp. I read some pretty good reviews considering the price and went for the dive. I'm about to go buy some ammo while I wait the long 72 hours and im wondering what type I should buy. Any suggestions?

I like the gun , it work's great except for the hollow points , which may just be a ammo choice. As far as mags go I bought 2 of the redball 20 rounders for the jhp45 and neither one chambers any ammo well, so they will need to be reworked to function properly, but they fit well in the gun. Some folks is see are using 1911 mags with success.

If you are using the Redball 20rd mags on the JHP? They are for the 4595. They were not designed for the JHP.

I hate to post this video cuz this guy is a long winded dink..... (also a member here)

I always push the back side down on the rounds one at a time. The weak point of any Hi-Point is their cheap-o mags. At least their frames don't crack!

The elcheapo Hornady custom is a good round in 9. Probably good in .45.

Might I ask why you polished the ramp? YouTube commanded you? o_O Most of us just shoot'em.

Federal brass works flawless in my jhp45. However the federal hst hollow pts 230+p jam at times. Ramp polished and clean. So which hollow pts will
work in this 45??
Thanks

I didn't know that Bass Pro Shops carried Hollow points, recently looking for a box of Ammo for my Hi Point 45. Actually this is my second Hi Point, my first was a 380, I like the brand, I have heard the saying of its a throw away, but to be honest I know people with the so called high end manufactuers and theirs have jammed up, neither one of my Hi Points have ever jammed up or mis fired

If you have a polished feedramp ide try what ever you can find or can afford.

If your firearm is stock i would select a round with the best point.

For instance, the rounds to the left i would want to avoid because they may cause feed issues. The rounds to the right FMJ non hallow point have the better point and i feel will feed better.

You have to remember this firearm relys on many things for a reliable gun. The round can cause problems and is the majority of the problems that most guns have.

If you look at yours and study the feedramp and the round you might see why one would feed better and why one would tend to hang or catch as it hits the feed ramp. That blunt flat point may cause feed issues.

This is just my opinion though.

Ive tried cheap winchester, remington, federal and PMC they all fed fine in my C9 but if you look at them they all pretty much look the same. Not one feed issue with eitehr of these brands.

I have a JHP and Independence ammo has been 100% reliable for about 250 rounds now. I've shot only 50 Tula but they did just fine as well. The WWB is where mine sputters. It hates that crap, don't know why but it does. Federal and Blazer work great also. Haven't tried any HPs yet. I'd say out of the 600 rounds or so I've gone through, 90-95% of my trouble came from WWB (Winchester white box).

Just talked to the "factory" the other day. I was advised by the nice lady on the phone to avoid Winchester white box, Tula and Wolf. She stated that Tula and Wolf are varnish coated which can gum up the chamber after prolonged firing.

Just sayin' what she told me...

Unless you got a 4 inch nickel that's never gonna happen with a 1911.
Never shot one but there's only so much you can do with a 4 inch barrel and production ammo.
Have to call BS on the Tula bullet argument also.
Cheap bullets? What do you think American manufacturers use? Federal? Freedom munitions and all the other reloaders?
Thousands of people shoot Tula everyday, what's the use of a cheap gun if you can't shoot cheap ammo?

Hell, the all-time favorite 1911 .45's are blow-back pistols, and some of them are VERY finicky.
True, SOME are, but that still shouldn't detour people away from them. My RIA is a champ, it'll eat anything, but I refuse to run tula in anything I have. I've had a few gunsmiths tell me tulas cheaply made bullets will destroy a bore.

Honestly I reccomend standard federal for range time and hydra shok for defense.

I also reccomend for most average people to start off with a hi point 45 as opposed to a 1911 to start off with, because what's the point in having such a precision weapon and paying $600+ and not having the training, experience, and skill set to utilize it to its full potential? Yes they are beautiful, precise, and highly customizable pieces of art and defense, but why even bother owning it if you can't stop a threat with it? A hi point is just as accurate as a 1911 in the hands of most people. When you can keep nickel size groups at 25 yards then you can justify a 1911. And when you have both snatch up a thingmeister mag catch and share magazines between the both of them.

:eek:ff topic rant over:

Shoot whatever is the cheapest, whatever is on sale.
I mostly shoot Tula unless something else is on sale.
Don't get carried away with fancy ammo, it's makes the same size hole....
