here is a guy who cut the carry handle off his 715t

http://mossbergowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=6255

There have also been people who have sent their carry handle 715's back to Mossberg for service and requested the Flat Top shell, and have recieved their rifle back in the Flat Top plastics

I'm looking for a similar look to a shotgun saddle and I think he cut too much off the front sight. Also found an airsoft stock in dark earth that will fit the tube and matching rubber rail covers. I'm going to cut the front post down and have a low profile rail riser to extend over the hole.

Doesn't look like the rails line up. Do you need a riser for the front site?

they sit about 1/2 inch higher than the front which is ok the stock rear sight was all the way up when i had it zeroed because that front post was really high. shouldn't be a problem at 50 feet using the mbus. my 2x magnified red dot couldnt zero at 300 feet because it was too high on the carry handle. 1235 fps the sweet spot is 50 feet winds up zero at 300 as well. worst case I throw a 1/2 riser on the front.

i was thinking of shaving some of the rails inner circle diameter to make it a free float. would that be a bad idea, good idea, or not make a difference? i'm thinking of putting a sling, hence a desire in freefloating the rail.

Bad idea. The plastic is what hold the front of the barrel.... and the front sight. It's just a ATI plastic shell on a mossberg 702 barreled action.

Could you make an AR kinda pistol thing out of one of these?

I have a S&W M&P 15-22P and my brother likes it but he doesnt want to give $500. like i did for mine.

Here is what mine looks like.

If you cut off the adjustable stock, and cut down the front quad rail could you then cut down the barrel so its more like my pistol? but at half the cost?

Ok. Step 1. Cut the carry handle off flush.step 2 cut the front sight off flush. Step 3 attach 2 4inch mend plates to the top of the shell. Pre drill into shell this will hold the 2 halves together. Try to use a vise or clamps to keep it centered and make sure you drill center of the holes on the mend plates. Step 4 cut a 12inch picatinny blank down to 8inches. Step 5 with mend plates screwed in clamp rail in place and drill through rail and plates. Step 6 use a bit big enough for the head of the screws you're using and drill on top of existing holes to allow screw head to sit below rail surface. Paint is your choice I went flat black. If you don't know what a mend plate is ask the guy at home depot it will be obvious when you see them.

I'm just curious as to how that affected the accuracy of the iron sights and if it caused the front sight post to look so big while aiming that it covers ur target. i would really like to do this to mine but i don't want to sacrifice accuracy for looks

that is awesome. But be careful not to put a vertical foregrip on that.It will turn it into what is classified by the BATFE as a AOW which you would have to register.I'm sure many may already know this, but I just stopped a buddy from putting a VFG on his Glock 17 warning him that its illegal unless he registers it as a "Any Other Weapon".
I'm sure you might know this, just putting it out there.:)
Please take time to read the BATFE laws before making any mods to a firearm.

Are you sure that how it works? I only took 2" off mine but i wasnt including the brake. If its welded on then its legal?
From what I have read, you can count the muzzle break in the barrel length if it has been welded, or pinned in a fashion that is considered permanent.

Asking legal advice on a gun forum is not very smart. Look up the laws yourself to be "sure".
